Bet Of The Day…

No bet of the day – neither of the none top rated runners leap out at me- famous last words, albeit some notes on a few below…

I think you could make some sort of case for the top rated runners and systematically at least the results to date suggests that is the place to focus.

So It’s War – well he looks like a stayer and was outpaced over 7f at Ayr the last day, running well to a point. The race before that he ran well over an extended mile at Hamilton where he had a subsequent winner in front and two subsequent winners in the two places behind him. So, he was in amongst in form and/or progressive horses it would appear. The hope here rests on returning to a stiff track with a stiff finish. There is a bit of pace on here and it could set up for him. He will be doing his best work late up this hill – let’s hope they come back to him. He has a change of jockey and is 3lb below his last win. He doesn’t get his head in front too often but 10s seems worth a short given he is a I1 – hard to entirely rule out and is a decent price.

King of Spin – he is just an inform sprinter, a CD winner who should run his race again. I don’t know if the ground was too soft the last day or if the capper now has him- if the latter then he may struggle. But he is 3/6 on turf and there could be more to come on a sound surface. Something may be better treated but he should run his race.

Lydia’s Place- probably the weakest of the top rated runners to my eye – mainly as every horse in here seems in form and is aged 3 or 4 – packed full of progressive/haven’t seen their best types and it looks competitive. You cannot entirely rule out Burke’s runner either- i struggled to see why she should suddenly do better than those last three runs, but maybe she is improving with each run- and there could be some pace to aim at here. Hard to rule her out with confidence. Tricky race.

Perfect Summer – well she stays and is form, SDS is up. She also likes to front run, as does Alan Kings- those two should be up there for most of the way. This one is a tricky individual it seems, regular changes of headgear, and can struggle to put two decent runs together- but she has the perfect jock on board to keep her interested and maybe she just likes being up top. She should run her race, if on a going day. (SMPs looks a good thing mind)

So, a few thoughts on those, in terms of how my eyes look at such things. You may completely disagree!

  2. of interest ….Royal Ascot/ A O’Brien/Sired by War Front
    2012-16….. 15 bets, 4 wins, 8 places +42 AE 1.79
and that includes no wins in 2014 from 6 horses (not sure if any logic there), within that 2yos are 7/2/3 +31, so maybe best to concentrate on 2yos. Qualifiers tomorrow … 3.05 the coventry, US navy flag 40/1 and 5.35 the windsor castle, Declarationofpeace.
War Front, what is he good for? … probably absolutely nothing … huh! say it again…
