NONE… nothing today. My word it looks a challenge… the Veteran’s Chase and Old Roan at Aintree look a puzzle I have no confidence in solving. I will see if anything jumps out in the paddock and slaps me around the face. The 2.45 Wincanton looks tricky also.. my members’ stats highlight about 5 horses in that and I thought BallyLongford may look the most interesting of them. Maybe 9/2 is short enough given his time off but if he repeats that Cheltenham run behind Theartre Guide he would have a massive chance in this line up for me.
Not a day to go mad and probably more one with notebooks at the ready.
The sun is shining up here in Liverpool and Aintree will be resplendent. I can’t wait to return, the first day of 7 quality days of action between now and the end of April.
Have a great day.

Vintage Clouds Aintree Sunday 15:35 1pt e/w-I appreciate this one comes with some risks however this is by far the easiest race he has raced in a long time. Has last 4 runs have all been in Grade 3s and even when he has fallen he was running a very good race. This looks infinitely simpler and the fact that he is racing against novices I don’t think he jumping will be put under anywhere near as much pressure and given a majority of the competition have limited chasing experience he looked the value at 7s. He has been dropped a further 2lbs since his run and is on a very nice mark.
He’s also on Stu Williams list as is Ballyarthur in the same race and Sam Brown in the 1:35 at Winc.
9 runs so far with 4 wins, 1/2, 1/1, 3/1 and 4/1.
3.5 profit to SP
138% ROI
Well done to Twiston-Davies . Surely no coincidence that when you ride them up with the pace/ making it you get results. Been frustrating watching them being held up and finishing 2nd !
I am not the biggest fan of STD but he rode very well at Cheltenham. He did get his rides jumping well I thought.
3.00 AINTREE G-S (G)
An interesting race with the majority FTO, with three or four habitual FTO winners.
The quality of this race has improved with quicker times and more runners.
Dan Skelton has given OLDGRANGEWOOD 9/1 a warm up over hurdles at Chepstow and if you take the previous run last season at Ayr; 22 April 2017; into consideration he is well in contention.
I think the plan is to gain a class 1 strike before the competition warms up after a run or two.

Bewarned that Willliam Hill do not pay out on 4th place (Confessional) when there are 15 runners though quoting 4th place guaranteed.
I’m giving Bon Chic 1.15 Aintree a chance returning to hurdles after 4 chase runs.
BC has won over this distance in a class 3 on good ground off a 7 pound higher rating when trained by Skelton.
First time visor applied today and admittedly an inexperienced 10 pound claimer aboard but she has won 3 from 16 for Moffat.
The horse has to bounce back after being pulled up lto when chasing but I think Aintree will suit and it did run ok previous to that last pulled up run.
I’d like to see it race closer to the pace today and that would give it every chance of being competitive,
Hi Chris,
Echo your thoughts on BC. My concern is the record for 8y olds. Yes to small samples I agree. Maybe a sneaky bit on green zone? 6y old …..light weight…..trainer likes a runner in the race?
Top work there Chris, well done…33’s at sp …wow
Thanks Chris, what a great ride by Charlotte Jones, even managed to get a breather into it on the final circuit.
Very well done mate….that would have been a raised heartrate after the last then! Can’t beat it!
Great stuff Chris!
Great work there Chris with BON CHIC – not a yard I’d follow away from Cartmel, and only a vague recollection of the pilot; TOP WORK ; WELL DONE !
The Church Gate….3.10 Wexford.
is a 16/1 long shot from a system i use for larger priced fancies.
It has a 16% SR…6/42.
I must say though the handicapper has not treated the selection favourably..It was 0/14, and rated 88 over hurdles, yet he’s chosen to rate it 105 over fences for a distant 4th. P last time, but that’s the system, so i won’t alter it.
BOL.

Chris Mcilfatrick NICE TIPPING —- WELLDONE.
Easy as you like there. I suspect the lack of fences may have helped but the way he destroyed them I’d like to think he would have won even if they were there. (kicking myself for just failing to tip Bag Groove but I guess I cant complain.)
Well done gents, two decent winners there! Sadly I appear to have backed neither, bugger. Would appear a few got stuck in, so top work.
Seeing a great favourite of mine and a vastly under-estimated horse like Smad Place was a fantastic advert and testament to the Veterans Series. It is a great innovation and for once the BHA have got something right.
My only slight niggle is that it does not become a series just for those that meet the age qualification and some true veterans can win too . If you go back just 20 years to the era of Jenny Pitman; Ginger McCain; and that era, a 10 year old chaser would actually be “at peak” and a veteran would be probably 12; 13; 14 or older. The advent of the French breds and more focus on “animal welfare” has i supposed reduced that age range, and very rare now to see many horses 14+. I get the need to be sensible with horses but lets not write great horses off as “veterans” too soon!
He did win the Old Roan Ian! Not the veterans race. Still life in his old legs for a decent non veterans race it seems.
Albeit yep it is a great series. Goodo to give theme options and chance to win decent pots when they wouldn’t otherwise.
of course he did, too much yelling and screaming at the footy, need a lie down….yep still a great run thought from Smad, nothing like a front running grey and another great greys named in race title!
