Today’s Tips & Notes
Nothing from me today, these small field jumps cards are a bit desperate today, lot’s of shorties, inc above, and in races I rarely like diving into. I had a deeper look at the 3.27 Newb but nothing could tempt me in at the prices. Twinjets looked laboured on his return, like many of PNs, and intriguing more generally to see if he takes a massive step forward from first run to second – which could be a theme for the yard’s runners in the next few weeks. Alan King’s horse has a decent record fresh, solid hurdler, making chase debut. 11/4 may be short enough for one like that around here, but if he jumps, you’d think he’s going close, as would Chris Gordon’s, won on seasonal return two years back, shaped as if needing it last season, so hard to know fitness wise. I’d like Thelasthighking to run well, and I’ll keep an eye on him for coming starts, 0/4,3p on seasonal return to date and arguably open to attack from better treated/classier rivals. He lost his way early in the year, but his chase form before that was solid, and you’d think more wins in him, esp if they could get this mark down a few lbs. Anyway, a watching brief for me.
I did look at Squiggles from the stats list above, but there’s not much to go on with the horse. He was an Irish point winner, so has some ability, but form that isn’t much to write home about yet (the three that followed him home have just been kept to points with so-so success), before tailing off on rules debut for Sue Smith. That yard has had a quiet time for a while, and no doubt James Owen will spark this one into life. He has a 35% SR with his non-handicap hurdlers, but plenty go off very short. When Sam T-D is riding his non-handicap hurdlers – 7/10,8p, +1.6. Trainer/jockey are 6/9 together in last 14 days. All winners very short. He’s hard to get a grip on in terms of his ability/form, the market may guide, 4s at the moment.
In any case, a day to sit and watch for me.
