When looking for trainer angles for Ireland’s next big Festival, there is only one trainer to really focus on, Willie Mullins. (and another smaller yard I’ve mentioned also)

314 bets / 74 wins / 149p / 172 races/ 24% wsr / +41 SP / +93 BFSP / BFAE 1.32
That’s as many winners as the next three trainers combined in the same period… Dermot Weld, Joseph O’Brien and Aidan O’Brien. (who collectively are 74 winners, -264 points to SP)

- All races except for handicap chases (2/28, 12p -19 in handicap chases, but don’t ignore Galway Plate runners)
- Horse had 0-1 wins this season
- Horse either had no previous form in IRE/UK (first career start/or first run from France for example) or had finished Top 3 at least once on last three starts.
- Odds: horse sent off 18/1 industry starting price or shorter (bigger: 0/19,3p)

They’re rather consistent figures and there’s no reason I can ponder why he won’t maintain them in the years ahead, unless arriving bang out of form with a virus having swept through his string. Of course you’d expect the market/odds compilers to not take any chances with early prices but that doesn’t appear to be the case as yet, plenty of value still to be found – the joy of big field Festival races maybe.

There is one other trainer of interest I could find from a ‘systematic’ perspective and this angle may be worth keeping an eye on…
Adrian McGuinness
- Distance: 7f- 1m.5 furlongs
- Horse had 1+ run at the track previously
- Trainer had 2 or more runners in the race
- Any odds

That’s quite an impressive haul from a smaller trainer, and from five different horses, suggesting he definitely targets the races over those distances and likes throwing at least two darts to make sure. Hopefully he’s done so again this year and has the horses to get the job done. The market is irrelevant with his runners here, some big priced winners.

That’s all for this Galway trainers post – less is more this time. I’ve thrown too much mud in some years with too many trainer angles (as I did at Royal Ascot also) and it hasn’t ended well. Hopefully they do as well as the recent Newmarket July Meeting angles. We shall see how these two get on, combined with my five angles for Glorious Goodwood, found below.
