To Ripon…

2.40 – Royal Mariner – the market may guide here and he doesn’t appear that fancied at the moment, for all it may not mean anything. It looks an open maiden on paper. While flicking through I just noted Jame’s Tate’s record at Ripon, 8/21, 12p all runners last 5 years, for all most sent off short. He’s 4/9,6p with his 2YOs here in the last 5 years, which I found interesting also. This one looked badly in need of the experience last time, outpaced at times also, the step up to 6f could suit. I’m not sure he handled the dip too well either and a Newmarket maiden would tend to be much stronger than a Ripon maiden. In any case, he may well be one for further down the line but I’d expect him to take a big step forward from that and maybe he can mix it here in the places

3.40 – Brilliant Light – It may be worth noting for the form of Saeed Bin Suroor in the coming days who burst into life yesterday with x3 winners, taking him to 5/15, 10p in the last 14 days, 73% of rivals beaten. That does make his only runner at Ripon of some interest, Brilliant Light in the 3.40. He didn’t do too much in Meydan over the winter in two starts but last July did run ok here in a Class 2, over 12f. He faded in the final 2f there so maybe this drop to 10f, and into a C3 handicap will see him do better. Whatever he does, a yard worth keeping an eye on in the next week or two.

That’s all for today, enjoy the rest of your weekend,

Josh

    2.20
Cotai Pearl; Quite athletic, handy type, on toes, fine.
Flying Barty; Plenty of size, strong, looked well.
    Greeroad; Fit, small/medium.
Harswell Rose; Two handlers, high head and light framed. Of little account.
    Kamada; Size/strong, carried condition.
Kodade; Small/medium, strong. Needed the run.
Maria Branwell; Laid back, ok sort, carried some condition and looked type to improve for the run.
Marine Lake; Awkward/keen looking, compact/strong, pretty straight.
My Honey B; Two handlers, medium/strong, carried condition, looked green.
Noor Bano; Strong sort, carried some condition.
Roxy’s Charm; Strong, ok sort, carried condition.
    Sideways Shift; Medium/strong, carried condition.
Sparkling Red; Angular/light framed, not great in coat but looked fairly fit and forward.
Streetwise Girl; Medium/compact, unfurnished and modest type.
Unknown Angel; Weak in front, unfurnished, on toes and needs time.

  2. couple from me today:
    1pt each-way
GULLANE ONE, 210 Ripon, 15-2 Unibet, 4 places
    SPANISH ANGEL, 210 Ripon, 7-1 888 4 places
BRILLIANT ANGEL, 340 Ripon, 6-1 unibet, 3 places
MISS BRITAIN, 510 Ripon, 3-1 corals, 4 places.

    Gullane One
Shaped perfectly well on reappearance when 4th and drops a furlong to 5 furlongs. The key to this horse to me is good to firm ground where he has 3 wins and 6 places. Runs off 55, won on good to firm at Carlisle last year off 57. Hoping jockey just boots him out and lets him gallop.

    Spanish Angel
Runs consistently this season and drops to a class 6. Record in class 6s on good to firm is 1 win from 1 run. Runs off 59 today, won off 70 last year

    Brilliant Angel
Drops a grade, 1 win from 1 at the distance, shaped well over 1m 4f at Ripon last year when 4th to Dark Jedi. Stable’s last 4 runners 1112. The 2nd was runner up to Baeed yesterday

    Miss Britain
Top-rated on RPR, TS and Geegeez SR ratings. Progressive RPRs in the last 3 runs and stable had a winner and 4 places from 10 runners in last fortnight. Difficult to see it out of the frame at least and should get a nice tow from Woodlands Charm.

    My PICK
    BAYSIDE BOY 8/1 E/W
gonna take on the favourite with colt who has managed to run into Luxembourg and native trail in previous outings.
raced well in both of those races. so has been keeping good company. draw is slight concerning as i think he would be a shorter price he was drawn better. but worth the risk at the price. should be a hot race.

    as always good luck today
