Nothing too much this week, just the one ‘hot form’ horse. I will be more sporadic with these from now on I suspect, with more focus on the stats research/trends content. I do have a ‘Trainer Profiles 2020/21: The Jumps’ guide to start pondering before October arrives and there’s also the ‘Monthly Trainers’ which will return next month i suspect with ‘Twister Season’ and the Lavelle angle. I’m conscious of ‘less can be more’ and of course there’s plenty of recent losing tips for me to track in the ‘horses to follow’ (or not follow) section 🙂 Let’s crack on…
- 3YO Bay Gelding
- Trainer: M Meade
- Hot form race: 4.10 York, 18th July. C3, 6f, Handicap (3YO+),Good, 18 runners. Median OR of race 83.5
This York sprint handicap is turning into a hot enough race for the grade. 9 horses have run subsequently with 4 wins between them. Owney Madden was a ‘running on’ 4th in this contest. The 2nd, Muscika, has won since, as has the 5th, 9th and 10th. It wasn’t a race packed with unexposed types but such results would suggest this race was competitive enough and that plenty of them were coming to the boil/well handicapped.
Owney Madden was having the 9th start of his life, 2nd run of the season. It was solid. Not for the first time he looked outpaced over this trip and it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s stepped bac up to 7f soon. He showed ability at 2, including winning a 20 runner York nursey off 80. I’m not sure he wants it rattling fast and it could be that 7f with some juice seems him return to the winners’ enclosure. That’s if he’s trained on of course. But, at this sort of level he could find weaker races than this to contest.
