Secondly… I always like to drip feed some stats of interest, especially at this time of year. I’m busy completing my own unique Festival guide which focusses on the handicaps and a few other races of interest. Also included is a look at a few trainers and micro angles of interest.  Below is an angle for JP’s runners in handicaps…
Owner: JP McManus (owner stats only go back to 2013 in HorseRaceBase)
  • Cheltenham Festival
  • Handicap Chase/Hurdle (standard/not novice hncps)
  • Had NOT won on last three starts
  • 15/2 or shorter SP (8/1 + : 0/66, 7p)
15 bets / 5 wins / 10 places (inc wins) / 33% sr / +17 SP / +21 BFSP / AE 2.09
So, note that down. Whether he has any qualifiers this year we shall see, but if he has a ‘shorty’ in those handicaps they’re clearly worth plenty of attention and he no doubt backs them in, which must be some indication the team think said horse is well handicapped/been the plan etc.
As always, ‘the people’ (trainers /owners /jockeys) are as important as the horses at The Festival in my opinion.
Meanwhile… the Paul Nicholls February micro angle continues to tick along and hopefully plenty of you took note. He fired in a 13.5 BFSP winner at Fontwell on Sunday to keep those ticking over and my members’ ‘monthly trainers’ are now on +162.76 BFSP since the start of September – that does include Paul’s 110/1 BFSP winner of the Betfair hurdle, but even without that it still a solid total, and i’d best get finding a trainer or two to follow in March! It’s been fun so far to £2/£5 stakes which is the level to start at with these.
Hopefully something of interest for you there.
My own annual Festival offer is taking shape – you’ll be able to get full access to my Festival content, including the stats/trends guides, for £9.99 – i’m just finalising that but as with previous years it will be via ClickBank which means you can get a full refund if I didn’t help you enjoy the week! But, more on that later in the week, likely Thursday/next week.
All the best,

  2. Hiya GBster, no time to properly study Lingfield and a pity there’s no evening card. But these horses came out of my first study last night so where we match I have included them.

    2.30 Lisbet
3.00 Noble Peace and The Jean Genie
    4.00 Hamish Macbeth
5.00 Bold Decision and Come on Bear

As you say, not tips, just where we have landed on the same horses through our individual meanderings.

    Have fun.

  3. hi josh
regarding that BFSP 110 to 1 pic d orhy winner. it did not qualify ! the nicholls micro is ran once only last 90 days. the race was 8 feb, it ran 18 jan and before that on 10 nov. the thing is 10 nov was 90 days before 8 feb. I have checked it twice. that means had run twice in last 90 days, so not qualify. I checked it on race day with view to back, but thought, missed it by 1 day. so not back it. I have now amended the days to 89 instead of 90. bit galling to see you saying micro gave it! when did not back it due to abiding to rules.

    1. Hi Malc,

I’m sure I replied to your original email – on my rules it did qualify and I apologised for the mis-understanding – my systems like that are built in Horse Race Base and they never take account of French and other form abroad – all the research and thus rules exclude such performances – I should have have specified that it was 1 Run in last 90 days in UK/Ireland and i’ll be more careful to hammer that point home in future – I have been posting the qualifiers in the members club, he came up in my system as saved in HRB, and thus was posted – so for members’ results purposes for that micro he will counted –
i’m sorry you missed him, that’s my fault for failing to be crystal clear with those points/rules above – on UK/IRE runs he only had 1 in previous 90 days, the french run is irrelevant albeit at this time of year rare for such runs to creep into runs like that.
He’s still +15 SP, +13 BFSP (and higher if taking morning odds given number of shorties/well backed) without that winner.
      Best, Josh
