2.35 Hunt – Taj Badalandabad – 1 point win – 9/1 (gen)  UP – was running a good race, faller in front which did for him, was hard to tell if he was on terms though – certainly didn’t affect the win, Harry Fry’s had any amount in hand which was possible if fit/there to run race given is form. Moving on.

that’s all for today, as of 08.33, video preview below…

  3. Got stuck into the 1.50 last night at Donny, dont normally like the shorter trips but a few i recognised in here looked a decent race
Bit of a puzzler with quite a few well Hcpd. The 2 best hcpd to win i think are Duke of Navan and Movie Legend both having won at these marks and over C+D. The fav best Hcpd of all and possibly been at the wrong trip the last 3 runs but faded fairly easy so a short price considering
Mostly older horses in this, was going to side with Movie Legend with Aspel jocked back on, but think at now 12/1 would take a chance and back TwoTwoThree, only 7 looks totally unexposed and carries featherweight for this today. Doing something different returning to good ground after lugging round top W in a bog at Warwick last out and didn’t look to travel the same in it

  4. Hi Josh – “Harry’s Historical Fact of the week”. I have chosen the Cleeve Hurdle this week
The Cleeve Hurdle is a Grade 2 which is open to horses aged five years or older. It is run on the New Course at Cheltenham over a distance of about 3 miles (2 miles 7 furlongs and 213 yards), and during its running there are twelve hurdles to be jumped. The race takes place each year in January.
It started out as a Grade 2, It was then promoted to Grade 1 status in 1991. It was downgraded to Grade 2 status in 2004, and its distance was extended to the present length in 2005. In its analysis of that year’s running, the Racing Post commented that the modified Cleeve Hurdle was “effectively replacing the long-distance hurdle formerly run at Haydock on Peter Marsh day.” That year’s winner was Fire Dragon ridden by A P McCoy
Only one horse has won it twice – that being the fantastic Big Bucks in 2009 & 2012
The Cleeve Hurdle is the Festival Trials Day contest that has turned up the most Festival winners in recent years. Last year’s winner Paisley Park went on to win the Supreme -will he win it again?
In the last five years the highest-placed Cleeve Hurdle finisher to contest the Festival’s Thursday highlight has finished no worse than third in the latter race. Thistlecrack won both in 2016
Without any doubt the queen of all the runners has to be the only horse to win this race 3 times!! – and 3 years on the trot no less – the tough as nails Lady Rebecca – 1999, 2000 & 2001
I have chosen the middle race if people would like to watch it – the runner up went on to win that years Supreme beating Limestone Lad, what a finish this was,
    Enjoy!!

    1. When you visit Cheltenham on a race day, particularly for the festival, in the ‘Shopping Village’ there are a number of Artists. If you ask then they can get prints or the actual paintings of these old Cheltenham heroes. Some are even on display to buy there. I know that the internet may also do the same job.
Not my cup of tea. I think that they are hard to match with other decor (so my wife tells me!).

I am going to approach the Festival this year from two different methodologies – Back a horse that completed the course at Cheltenham this weekend….and that Won last time out at Leopardstown. I will back them £10 win to have skin in the game and see where I get to.

What about horse who have won at the festival previously coming back? William Henry seems to be creeping around in the background. Frodon in The Ryanair seems obvious. What about Un De Sceaux at a price if he goes a decent clip on good ground?
Or trainers for certain races? Skelton or Jonjo in a hurdle? Hendo in The Triumph with a horse yet to run ?

      Good luck.

      1. Last year’s 30 pages of stats/trends and 10 ‘micros’ are here…

        http://racingtoprofit.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/The-Cheltenham-Festival-2019-Stats.Trends-Pack-FINAL-1.pdf

May or may not give you some further ideas, esp micros, or angle you may tinker with/improve. Got the trainer race records for the featured handicaps etc
I need to get cracking on this year’s version – Febs Micro Monday posts will have plenty of Festival trainer focus I think also.
        Josh
