  1. Some notes from the London Racing Club preview.

You need to check the names of the horses as I did not have time to go through the races on the cards. However I am confident that I got the correct number of the horse.

On the panel Mark Johnson (MJ) and Rachel Candelora (RC) of Racing TV fame.

Richard Mandela is a trainer for this track. ChristofphClement is 0/36 in the Breeders Cup. Jamie Spencer is 0/21.

Santa Anita has had a wet winter. The core of the surface broke and the course has now been reworked. IT may nor be as firm as in previous years.

    Friday (all 2YO races)

    1) Grade 2 Turf sprint 5F – 6 Euros in the field which is the biggest in any BC race.

Wesley Ward is the trainer to follow here. His filly, No 7 Kamari, has an inside draw, she is front running and has John Velasquez on board.

Archie Watson has runners in the race and has been stalls testing them at Lingfield on the all weather so that they get a quick start here.

Al Ali is 3/3 for his trainer Simon Crisford. Drawn outside the Ward runners and has Frankie on board.

One of the reserves, No 13 Bullet Proof One could go well at a price if getting in.

    2) Juvenile Turf over one mile – 14 runners.

AOB has Arizona in this race with Ryan Moore on board. He is currently the favourite. He is drawn in stall 10 which is not good.

Decorated Invader is the only grade one winner in the field. Has a stalking run style.

No 5, Vitology had a bad draw last time out but ran well.

Why does Clement have such a poor record in the BC as a trainer? RC says that he is a turf trainer in New York and the climate is very different there from what it is in California.

    3) Race 7, Juvenile Fillies (big race).

Donna Veloce is a talking horse and is being over priced at 3/1. Had one start over 6.5F at this course and scorched home. Now up to 1M 0.5F. Drawn 1 which is not good as you do not want to be on the rail as the ground may be dead. Advice is to take her on.

Trainer S Callaghan is 0/10 is 0/10 in BC.

No 6, Bast is trainer by Bob Baffert. Is being trained at a steady pace and not being pushed. Is the multiple grade one winner in the field.

No 4, British Idium is 2/2. Runs up with the pace and is drawn in 2. Major player.

No 8, Keep Dreaming is a rank outsider who is 1/3 but vould run in to a place.

    4) Race 4 Fillies juvenile turf over one mile.

A strong race. No course form available.

Albinia for Jessie Harrington is the favourite. Solid Arc day form but is that good enough here?

Other Euro runners not good enough. 2/11 gone to Euros.

Chad Browm is the trainer to follow in this race.

No 13, Selflessly is the pick. Not well drawn though. A nice winner of the Miss Grillo. Supplemented for $100K.

Todd Fletcher has a poor BC record.

Tango goes for AOB but he has a poor record in the race, 0/12. He won on heavy LTO which is not much use on firmer going here.

No 14, Etoile is badly drawn in 14 but may go well at a price.

    5) (I did not get the name of the race)

Maxfield was fancied but has been scratched.

No 1, Dennis’s Moment is a talking horse. Drawn one which is not good. Has been working well = railed like a greyhound. He has been clocking fast times but is a short price.

No 6, Eight Rings is trained by Bob Baffert. 2 form 3 but a bit quirky/mad. Not suited to such an event like this.

Other runners not that good. Scabbard ridden by Mike Smith may be next best.

    Saturday

    1) Fillies and Mares Sprint on the dirt over 7F.

A fast pace is certain here.

No 4, Come Dancing can go forward or lay off. Drawn 4 which is OK.

No 9, Spice Perfection, will come from off the pace and has good course form. Drawn 9.

    2) The Classic.

No 8, McKinsey – Bob Baffert and Joel Rosario team up. A 4YO. 3 wins and 4 seconds at this course. At 1M 2F is 0/2. Will he stay?
Trainer says he gets the distance. He is a tail swisher and does not like the whip.

No 6, Elate is a mare and is 1/6 this season.

No7, Yoshida was 4th last year in this race. Has Mike Smith aboard.

This is not a great renewal.

No 11, Code Of Honour is the best of this seasons 3YO’s. Is a closer. Comes from the East coast which is a climate issue here and 3YO from the East are 0/24 in West Coast BC’s.

No 7, Higher Power is a good each way shout. A pace pressure horse ridden by Flavian Prat.

    3) BC Turf.

AOB had Anthony Van Dyke, the Derby winner, in this one. AOB has 6 wins in this race but 5 came on from the ARC. Mount Everest is another AOB runner and may go well at 14/1?

Chad Brown is the trainer for this race. He runs no 9, Bricks And Mortar. He is the best turf horse in USA. His pedigree is Giants Causeway. Is a short price though.

No 10, Old Persian for Charlie Appleby, who has a 50& strike rate at BC is a good looker and may well contend.

No 3, United trained by Richard Mandela may run near to a place at 66/1.

    4) The Distaff.

No4, Midnight Bizou is the favourite. He was third last year and looks a good thing. He has had 7 straight wins.

No 3, Street Band is ridden by Sophie Doyle. Is a closer and will finish late. Has good form and is working well.

    5) race 9, Mile Turf – 14 runners.

Six Euro runners. No pace in race likely. Fillies and Mares have a good record in this one.

No 6 ?? broke the track record and will be suited by the course.

No 9, Circus Maximus is the current favourite and is ridden by Ryan Moore. He is considered quirky but is the best of the Euros. AOB 0/23 in the race and so oppose.

No 10, Without parole is a grade one winner and is trained by Chad Brown. Thought to be working well.

No 11, Bowies Hero is a stalker. The lack of pace may suit. Should be an each way price.

    6) race 8 the Dirt Sprint.

No 4, Matolie is the favourite and is a 3 times grade one winner.

No6, Chancealot had a hard prep race and may not have recovered from it.

    7) Fillies and Mares Turf.

Sister Charlie wins this one for Chad Brown. Jose Velasquez rides. Has a finishing kick but takes time to get going in races. Short price.

No 8, Castle Lady from France is 14/1 ish. Looks value based on her form. Has been out in California for a while acclimatising. Is a Shamardal by pedigree, who prefer softer going.

No 7, Basilica is a closer and is 11/12 at this course.

    8) race 6, the Dirt Mile.

Omaha beach is the favourite. is a 3YO and is trained by Richard Mandela. 5/4 current price.

    9) race 5, the Turf Sprint over 5F.

Eddie Haskell likes the course, drawn 10 which is bad.

No6, Stormy Liberal is going for her third win in the race and is 8/1.

How many Euro wins? RC says only one, Albinia.

Each way play – Higher Power from MJ and Selflessly from RC.

Lay – Donna Veloce for RC and Catalina Cruiser for MJ.

Nap – Midnight Bizou for RC and Untolie for MJ.
