  • Golf tips – Selections for October 10 – 13.

We are off to Rome on the European Tour and Texas on the USPGA Tour this week. There looks to be some value in the betting at both events if we look away from the favourites with the bookmakers. Our picks this week look set to give us a good run for our money….so take a look at what we think will happen.

On the European Tour we are off to the Olgiata Golf Club in Rome. This is the fifth Rolex series event of the season. The last time that the Italian Open was played at this course was in 2002 when Ian Poulter was the victor. Ian is in the field again this week. We have a relatively strong field this week with Justin Rose, Paul Casey, who is the current favourite at 9/1, Francesco Molinari and The Open winner Shane Lowry. Last weeks winner John Rahm takes a break and misses this one. The players are playing for 2022 Ryder Cup points here.

On The USPGA Tour we journey to Humble, Texas for the Houston Open. The venue is The Golf Club of Houston and the weather is set fair. The course is fairly standard and we can expect some low scores. The Tour last visited this venue in January 2018 when Ian Poulter was the victor (his name keeps cropping up). Henrik Stenson is an unconvincing favourite here at 10/1, with the big guns on the tour staying at home this week.

In the Italian Open our first selection is Matt Fitzpatrick, 1 point each way at 25/1 with Skybet, 7 places, 1/5 odds.

Matt is currently fourth overall on the European Tour for stroke average at 68.92 per round. Matt missed last weeks Spanish Open but had previously played well in Scotland, showing decent form. Back in July and August he finished fourth in the WGC event at the conclusion of the Fed Ex Cup and was then second in the Scandinavian Masters. Matt has played sporadically since then but is showing signs of form again and is getting plenty of practice in with his coaching team. He looks value this week at this price.

Our second selection in Italy is as a Matchbook tournament match bet – Adri Arnaus to beat Jordan Smith at 2.08 for 4 points. Adri has been in good form recently, challenging for honours on the tour and being a regular top 20 performer. Jordan Smith is a promising young player but has not been in the same level of form as Adri Arnaus recently.

In the Houston Open our sole selection is Cameron Champ, 1 point each way at 22/1 with Betfair, 8 places, 1/5 odds.

Cameron won the Safeway Open two weeks ago, winning comfortably and showing his class, in both long driving and short game skills. Last week he missed the cut in Las Vegas but his performance there may have been impacted by his success and celebrations the week before.
Cameron’s home is in Houston and so he will have the comforts of home this week and be able to sleep in his own bed. He also went to University in Texas and so has an affinity with the area. He is one of the emerging talents in the U.S. and this may be his season to push in to the top echelons of the game.

Last week we made a profit of 3 points. Callum Shinkwin was a late withdrawal in Madrid and so we had a non runner. In Las Vegas we backed Tony Finau each way and also to finish in the top 20. Tony finished tied 9th and so we collected on the top 20 bet.

Good luck and roll those putts in to the cup.

  • Sorry to be pedantic, Martin, but I can’t see any reference in your golf posts last week to a bet on Tony Finau to finish in the top 20.

    • No, you are correct.

I copied the post above from another site I post my tips on and on that site I put up the Top 20 bet and so that is why it is mentioned in the blog.

The tips should be going live on a tipping site soon, hopefully next week. I will get the guys who run it to speak with Josh re affiliate/discount etc when they get going.
