    • Sorry, in Cyprus and lost track of things.

This week we are off Madrid on the European tour for the Spanish Open, at the Club de Compo. A course of average length (approx 7.200 yards) with moderate rough and so we can expect low scores. The weather should be fine. The field is heavy with Spanish players which reduces the level of average world ranking per player. This tournament has previously been played in the April/May timeframe. Last years winner was John Rahm, who looks to retain his title here.

In the U.S. we are off to ‘Viva’ Las Vegas for The Shriners Hospitals for Children Open at TPC Summerlin. Justin Timberlake hosts this event each year, which is a fundraising for charity event. The course is a straight forward dessert course and the weather will be hot. Bryson De Chambeau is the defending champion here.

Spanish Open at the Club de Compo.

Callum Shinkwin at 50/1 with Bet Victor, 6 places, 1/5 odds, or 45/1 Betfair, 7 places, 1/5 odds.
John Rahm is currently 3/1 favourite and Sergio Garcia next best at 6/1. Both too short for me in the outrights. We need to look for some each-way value here.

Our each-way bet is Callum Shinkwin at 50/1 with Bet Victor, 6 places, 1/5 odds, or 45/1 Betfair, 7 places, 1/5 odds. Callum has been bubbling under on the European Tour, being a regular top ten contender in recent weeks. He does need to string four low rounds together and not let a 72 or more creep on to his scorecard on one day. He is one of the emerging talents on the tour and this type, of course, should suit him.

The Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Las Vegas – USPGA Tour

Tony Finau at 22/1, 1 point each way, 8 places, 1/5 odds with Sky Bet and Betfair.

In Las Vegas, Brooks Koepka returns to the USPGA Tour after a break and is currently the 8/1 favourite. However, we need to see him get his form back before we want to back him at that price.
Patrick Cantlay seems short at 12/1 and Bryson De Chambeau (BDC) is 16/1 to retain the title. His form has not been great recently and he had a 76 last week, despite going low the round before. I can see some value at the price each way though.
I would not back Hideki Matsuyama to win a raffle if he had all the tickets and so the 22/1 for him does not interest me.

The selection in The Shriners is Tony Finau at 22/1, 1 point each way, 8 places, 1/5 odds with Sky Bet and Betfair. Tony has played well the past two weeks on the European  Tour and has the current form in his favour, unlike some of the guys coming back off a break.

There is no Matchbook tournament match bet this week.

Good luck and stay out of the rough.

  • I think Callum Shinkwin is a non-starter.
