(these are in ‘test’ simply because I have no record of long term success in races outside of staying chases/the big Festival handicaps…that simple. There’s no reason I shouldn’t be profitable in chases shorter than 2m7f in time, but those above take my priority and i’ve been good at those long term since I started this blog. You may wish to await evidence as to whether i’m any good at shorter distances, or not. The same effort will be going in, time allowing after any race analysis above)

Your Views Appreciated: RTP Members Club Survey

Below is a link to a short survey (shouldn’t take more than 5-10 mins) asking for your views on this members’ club – how you engage with the content, what you may want more of and room for free text comments on what you like, and what you would improve. I think it’s anonymous and you don’t have to leave feedback in the free text questions if you don’t wish, however these are always most useful. There’s also the odd question on your racing code preferences and how you’d describe your level of racing knowledge 🙂

Please not most of the questions are ‘tick boxes’ where you can select as many answers as you wish >>>

Thanks. Josh

    1. Colin you made a comment that interested me yesterday about newspaper correspondents’ naps and how poorly they do.

My stepfather knew a taxi driver who picked up John Rickman, Gimcrack, one day and took him to the races. The driver said he’d backed his nap already and thought it looked good. Rickman said it wouldn’t win, he should back so-and-so in that race which he couldn’t tip because it would shorten the price. So-and-so duly won at 100/8.

      1. Chris interesting and no doubt totally true, have tried putting my experiences of the racing up here in the past and have been ridiculed, have put this up before on the same lines of what you have put up, couple of Cheltenham’s ago the owner of 200 plus horses with green and gold silks appeared in front of the camera and was asked what was his Nap of the meeting he replied ( forgot the name of the horse ) so and so which was running in about 10 mins and was 5/2 within couple of mins down to Evens, thought then it would not win and proved correct for it was nearer last than first.
How much did the bookmakers make off this quote live on camera, now this owner can have £50,000 on, and myself sruggle to get £5 ew with any bookmaker where my account is still open, something is radically wrong for do not even have a small share in a horse now, and certainly not a wealthy man.

        1. Yes a worrying scene for the industry when you see mike Dillon standing in the pre race paddock with ‘the lads’. The Irish derby this year had a right smell about it.

          1. It’s long been a thought I have held that an outstanding horse would remain undefeated but in a year of no superstars the task would be to maximise the number of G1 winners.

  2. just a couple of £2 ew’s today.
    Lingfield 4-40. Rainbow Jazz 9-1
    Catterick 4-30. Computable 18-1
    those 2 and
    Uttoxeter 2-50. Schnabel 12-1
    Fairyhouse 7-15. A Likely Story
    10p ew L15

  3. As we battle through the dross of early/midweek racing (but as my grandfather used to say – an 8/1 winner is an 8/1 winner any day of the week) I have been going through the initial entries for Glorious Goodwood (or whatever it is called now) at the end of the month. On a quiet day any thoughts on the ante post markets?

An issue i come across with such bets is that I look for horses with only one entry in the future that are likely to go in the race. However this is not foolproof as trainers still pull them out, which seems odd as they are good prize money races.

  4. Nap of the day – 4.40 Lingfield, Whimsical Dream, 1 point each way at 10/1.

    Good luck.

    1. Hi Martin, thankyou for posting your “Nap” of the day. Great pick today, and so very close yesterday.
      Best wishes, Tom.

  6. Just a note on Frankie’s rides at Killarney this evening…Coral/Ladbrokes going 10/1 ride 3 or more winners and 5/2 to draw a blank according to the Racing Post so given the past history, and the fact the GVC who own them made a profit despite the £2.00 max on FOB machines tells you everything you need to know about their assessment of his chances of having winners tonight…Chrisiwyg’s anecdote above tells you everything you need to know about the integrity of some of those involved in the sport regardless of “Naps” or no Naps…as always buyer beware, read between the lines etc.,…nothing selected today gd lck with whatever you are backing..

    1. How many enhanced price doubles + from bookies actually win? Not many, they know what they are doing.

      1. True…that is why punters need reminding that information etc., needs to be critically appraised just as much as in the bubble of the racing world we inhabit as in the “real” world…fortunately, members here are switched on in that regard but I have to remind myself to be far more critical than I am sometimes as it is easier to just relax enjoy the sport rather than delve into the in’s and out’s of pricing. etc.,
