Daily Tips

3.30 Perth – Rainy City – 1 point win – 20/1

Well no doubt one of the other shorter priced ones will take this but when looking at this race I thought 20s just seemed rather big on his second start for the yard. . He’s a previous CD winner of a C3 Novice handicap chase which was decent enough, off 117, and ran ok to a point here LTO – when evidently outpaced. He’ll appreciate this return to 3m. I think he’s good enough and there’s reasons to take on the rest. I certainly wasn’t keen on any at shorter prices that all look about right, so i’ll take a punt on this one at the price. He jumped well LTO and while I shouldn’t be wading into hold up horses, at this price I couldn’t help myself. It may not amount to much but I find his price a tad puzzling

Royal Village is in form but is now on a career high mark and has to lug around 12-6. Happy to leave him at 11/4 and Katgary who we were on LTO. He’s up 7lb and up in class. 11/4 isn’t generous either, but a chance he follows up. Out Sam is just a bit out of sorts for me, certainly at that price.

Viens Chercher is interesting to a point albeit was put in his place LTO. He will try and make all and maybe will stay there. 9/2 couldn’t tempt me in however. That Stratford win hasn’t worked out that well and they play around with removing the TT and back come the CP. He is maybe the one I fear i’ve got wrong, esp the pace angle. The yard are 1/40 in the last 30 days also.

Ned Stark could make 6/1 look like a brilliant price but unless you’ve got Gordon on the phone, it’s hard to tell. If he’s rekindled any of his old fire and is ready to go here, even at his age he could destroy this bunch. He’s interesting but I wanted bigger than 6s.

Maybe I’m mad for going with the 20s shot, but i’ll roll the dice.

Flat Test Tips

(2019 6/34,15p, +1.5)

None today from me. The Wokingham threatens to give me a headache – it looks so tough. I did like Cape Byron (short enough though) Tis Marvellous and at a monster price Fighting Irish looked interesting to a point but he could just be out of sorts. He may appreciate this better ground though and could sneak a place, and you never know. Certainly not a race I wanted to wade into this year, but they may get some small change on the machine for interest. Afaak was on the longlist earlier in the week at 25s so with any luck the stats below may hold this time, but working out which one, if any, seems tough.

  1. Royal Ascot looks difficult (how many times have I said that this week?).

2.30 Too hard to have a bet. At a pinch Joker On Jack at a big price for Wesley Ward.
3.05 I like Urban Icon as a horse and would give it a go at around 10/1 each way.
3.40 A tight race. I would like to lay Masar at 10/3 on his reappearance after a lay off. If 8 stand their ground then perhaps Communique at 25/1.
4.20 I do like City Light here after his seasonal debut warm up. He ran well here in 2018 and at 15/2 is worth a solid each way bet.
5.00 I do not think that the draw is such a big deal here. I can see Watchable being up there and then running on. So at 25/1 do like him each way. I will also go with Cape Byron who is a top horse and at 15/2 would be a win bet only. Also Lake Volta at 40/1 may be worth a small each way bet.
5.35 No bet for me, but Corelli for Gosden and Dettori looks set to go well. 5/1 is skinny though.

    Good luck.

    No updates

  9. Afternoon tips are up on the TC page. Yesterday was cool with 2 wins, two 2nds, a 3rd and 5 losers from more bets than I expected given how quiet it has been this past few days. Not as many today but it does seem that quality racing provides the kind of figures it needs to find the bets with.

  10. Ascot.
    2.30. Pinatubo w/o
3.05 No Nonsense e/w …saver on So Perfect w/o and On a Session e/w (or place only)
3.40. Defoe w/o with Nagano to place behind Masar
4.20. Blue Point w/o to beat City Light.

Hopefully ground is as described and no watering and no rain should be ideal for racing…Perhaps should explain 3.05 selections…according to the figures I have it is worth a punt on the two biggies at the prices..the rest are obvious choices based on my figures, for me, are the best horses…whether or not they win is another matter. Gd lck if playing.

    1. Three winners and a good place with Nagano (unlucky not to win really) with the only blip was the 3.05 so together with Josh’s stats re Dettori on earlier good Ascot results overall…speeds recorded and predictions vindicated the suspension of selections when the ground changed so lessons for me there to avoid putting up selections when the going is against the way I look at races. Congrats to other contributors today with their winners on a a tricky Saturday to turn a profit and good to see that Tim is doing well having put in a mountain of work refining his “no form” system which is certainly unique and an innovative way of looking at finding winners….great stuff from all on here….really an excellent group of people…all the best…

        1. Thanks….Always another day MC ….no such thing as “getting out” races…..learned a good lesson regarding the going and the way I assess races so plenty of opportunities going forward….and I have always had a soft spot for Frankie so tend to back them most of the time and when Josh identified the runners in his stats the other day couldn’t help myself!!..cheers
