Dan Skelton

Today I had a brief look at Dan Skelton after he had yet another handicap hurdle winner at a Festival, returning after a break. It’s clearly his MO for one who he thinks is well handicapped and he freshens them up for a target.

Angle 1

Dan Skelton / Handicaps/ Hurdles/ Class 1 or 2 / ran 61+ days ago / running at a ‘Festival’ (as defined in HRB)… since 2014>

29 bets / 7 wins / 12p / 24% sr / +64 SP / +107 BFSP / AE 2.81

  • those aged 5+ : 7/25, 11p, +68, +108

*

Angle 2

Dan Skelton / Handicaps / Hurdles / C1 or 2 / Not Aged 4 / Did NOT run 11-60 days ago (has odd winner making quick return) / Tracks: Aintree – Ayr – Chelt – Haydock – Market R – Musselburgh – Newbury – Uttoxeter

50 bets / 15 wins / 26p / 30% sr / +97 SP / +152 BFSP

  • At ‘festivals’ as defined in HRB: 8/28, 13p, +69, +112

NEW… Within Angle 2…

-those races worth under 13k (still C2)… 4/8, 8p
-those races 40k+ … 7/17, 7p +126 (Aintree/Ayr/Chelt/Haydock)

If looking at ALL handicaps / hurdles / 61+ days off / 2014>> …
In races worth 40k+ … 7/22, 9p, +121 BFSP (all 7 winners at those tracks as detailed above, but may well have the odd one elsewhere in months/years to come)

  1. Sad day for just picked up that Brendan Powell had to retire for financial reasons, what a fine jockey, trainer and a true gentleman, remember backing Rhyme N Reason in the 1988 National how he stayed aboard absolutely amazing and then go onto win still beggars believe.
One day at Kempton he rode a Novice Chaser for us and after the race spent some time going over the race, he was running to the weighing room when two girls asked him for his autograph he said no time but be here after the next race and he will sign them.
Asked Beverley Dai’s partner would he be there after the next race and she said he would and he turned up and signed the books for them that is the only time i met Brendan and for me a true gentleman.

    1. yes well said, much praise on twitter echoing similar thoughts- appears he’s very well liked, had time for everyone and was good company etc. He’s staying in the game, not sure in what capacity as yet, but the sport always needs people with his experience. Just shows how tough the sport is if you don’t have good horses/struggle to find them etc.

  2. 1st ( of the year) ELIMINATION CONTEST ( Heavyweight division)

Introducing The iron (part) man from a bygone age THE HIPSTER (Colin Leafe)
And from a recent reincarnation of the Gods THE NICKMESSIAH (Nick Mazur)

At the bell “messiah” is quickly into Hipster’s corner pummeling him with several each way wagers and while most look like longshots it’s incredible how many hit their target. Although shuffling awkwardly The Hipster uses all his experience of being on the gallops Donkey’s years ago and unbelievably quickens past the blows giving several adages to both ears of Mess. A few combinations of elite and new ( never seen before) moves by the older title contender appear to have no effect initially but several more ” honest ” blows are definitely wearing on “he who is to be”
Suddenly The Hipster is floored but convinced the bell had rung when the miracle man had thrown his selection. The referee, Josh ( it’s my site, right ?) Wright is in a dilemma, he doesn’t like these short skirmishes, preferring long slogs where the outcome has no dispute. However, now he needs to ask himself not only, was the shot late ? but was The Hipster left “Unexposed”

The problem now is The Hipster is sitting in his corner mumbling what seems incoherent words. BOG, BOG, no BOG. BFSP, SP stream across the ring sending the usually amicable Boy Wonder into a tirade of threats to holiday for more than 6 days in places out the UK. This sends his hoards of supporters into hysterical reactions of almost biblical proportions wondering where will the next free meal come from. Josh ( the referee) dons the black cap and begs both sides to reconcile while uttering the words ” Its a draw” Rematch to be announced ( da, da da da. Da, da da da )

    1. Haha. I’m almost in tears. Please please can I have a bottle of whatever you’re on this evening!! 🙂 But I can confirm that I am always the referee!

      1. What the hell have I just read? . Haha I don’t agree with everything chubbster says but he is amusing most of the time . Well done.

    2. Chubbers ( if i can call you chubbers ??? … lol ) Have you been overdosing on “TWO TRIBES” by Frankie goes to hollywood on your walkman .. after midnight again ???? lol
You will be put into solitary confinement like me if you are not careful ! 🙂

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK .. AND TURN THE VOLUME UP ON YOUR WALKMAN !!

Yes, I’m back from the dog walk and raring to play on the sand 🙂

Thanks for your lists, much appreciated. Will post back later at this stage of this thread so you (and other silly boys) can refer more easily back to your list from my musings.

        1. SBC Update LINGFIELD AND NOTTINGHAM

Just a couple of thoughts on Nottingham before we build sandcastles. 14.00, Free Love, a possible play for VPGB place betting, t/j are 50% win/place over five years. 15.35, Bowerman looks to have a favourites chance if fit enough. I also see you have listed Mr Ivory’s in the 16.10 Notts for Chris’s through the card: worth a check in betting as he is 42% win and place with this jock over 12 months.

I like the SBC system choice Sir Jamie in the 14.20 Lingfield, tho Clement was well backed last time for Mrs Fife who I always fear. Also agree your 17.00 and 17.35 selections (gulp), although Jamaican Jill worth a look too in the former.

Finally, don’t like Wiff Waff over this trip (now watch what happens lol). Will be backing Lucky Lodge and The Groove who I fancied the other day bit is better drawn now.

In the words of the great Tim Hanson, back later with tonight’s update 🙂 -:)

Could you please point me in the direction of the write/up figures on the findings which compared the over and under 3/1 prices. I thought i had put it in some notes but can’t now turn it up. Thanks John

      1. Hi John, it was Ken’s research, his original comment repeated below…

“Further to my earlier post regarding Colin’s tips, I personally don’t bet below 3/1 but I have recorded all his tips since July 18. The figures I have recorded are as follows:

        Colin’s Bets (1 Jul 18 to 31 Mar 19)
All Bets: 489 bets, Profit to BOG 25.71pts, ROI 5.26%
        3/1 to 12/1 : 347 bets, Profit 82.17pts, ROI 23.68%
        Only one winner above 12/1

        Elite Bets (1 Nov 18 to 31 Mar 19)
All Bets: 233 Bets, Profit 24.48pts, ROI 10.50%
        9/4 to 10/1: 180 bets, Profit 62.45pts, ROI 34.69%
        No winners above 10/1 yet

Those are the optimum odds ranges for each type of bet. I do, however, place some bets higher than 10/1 as I would hate to miss out on a biggie Some I do EW or 1/2pt win.

Hope that’s of some use to you.”

        1. Thanks Josh, just scrolled down to the 2nd of April post where Ken had kindly put this on, so will see how it goes sure the improvement will stay and a reduction in bets will be also a plus
          Colin

  21. 2.35 nott .. there is no-one imho better from the front than messrs. franny norton …. cool as you like .. let the horse have a breather …and didn’t care what the big odds on fav had to offer ..sheer poetry in motion 🙂 (unless u backed odss on .. tut tut ! )

    ..still winning !! 🙂

  22. SBC Update 2: KEMPTON

Bit trickier tonight. To begin with the GB longlist: in the 5.10 your system has churned out the odds on fav and a 150/1 shot! Maybe we should leave that one lol.

5.45, May Sonic is again very short, deservedly. Instead of Arvensis I fancy My Lady Claire as a big price poke.

6.15, quite like your two, Zorro’s Girl is 6lb better off with the current odds on fav yet unfancied?

7.15, prefer Puzzle Cache to The Celtic Machine.

7.45, really like Executive Force would be my best bet tonight. Trainer/jockey have good percentages round here although the fav could be the fly in the ointment. Still worth a bet on EF I think.

Finally, just a thought on the 6.45. Foxrush Takes Time ran well over 1m2f at Chelmsford yet bombed out over the same trip at Lingfield. Ran poorly over a mile at Southwell last time. Rae Guest is a canny trainer and is now running him back on the same surface and trip he nearly won on at Chelmers. Am I dreaming a plot? Gonna back it anyway to small stakes.

Thanks for all your input VPGB, have a great evening.

    1. all points noted … i really like the celtic machine and zorros girl .. both e/w .. using bookies money from today 🙂 .. and will put in all necessary savers and see how we get on .. agreed small stakes 🙂
thanks and have a great rest of today ! .. at the bookies expense 🙂
