  1. Systems selections – Emma Lavelle handicappers 5/1 +.

3.10 STR, Belle Empress now 10/1, 1 point each way.

3.30 TAU, Tierra Verde now 5/1, 2 points win.

    Good luck.

  2. London Racing Club Cheltenham preview evening – brief notes.

In attendance Lee Mottershead (LM) of the Racing Post; Maddy Playle (MP) of the Racing Post; Matt Tombs (MT) of Racing TV and Cheltenham festival trends author; Phil Smith (PS) former chief handicapper at the BHA and Martin Chapman (MC) from Star Sports Bookmakers.

    Tuesday

Supreme – MP likes Thomas Darby. PS says Elixir De Nutz is top rated on 153 and then Al Dancer on 152. MT also likes Elixir De Nutz as he finds more under pressure. MT feels Fakir Doudaries has to improve a fair bit to challenge here.

Arkle – PS thought that it was an open race and a weak renewal this year. You should avoid any horse that has not run in the calendar year as a rule at Cheltenham. Defi is an improved jumper and is suited by 2.5 miles and should not run at 2 miles. The highest rated is Hardline. MP said the Glen Forsa was uncomplicated and jumped well and would set the pace in the race. MT thought that Lalor was the form horse and that Hardline had solid form.

Champion Hurdle – Mt said if Melon was supported you should back each way. He also said that Willie Mullins had said to him that Laurina was the best horse he had ever trained. He also thought that Apples Jade had the best form this season. MP thought that Buveir D’Air was solid and should only be doubted when beaten. PS had Buveir D’Air on a mark of 172, Apples Jade on 166, Laurina and Espoir D’allen on 159. Mares get 7LB so you need to add it to their rating.

PS also mentioned that Dounikos should be backed for the Grand National.

    Wednesday

Ballymore – MC said that the stats were against Champ. He said that he had spoken to the trainer of Brewinupastorm, who said he was confident that the horse would go close. PS said that Champ was top rated, although he thought that its form was not strong. Seven year olds have a bad record in the race. MP liked City Island and Beakstown. MT liked Battleoverdoyen and said thta its trainer likes the horse a lot but may be better next season. MT also thought that Klassical Dream has a lot of pace and may go well.

RSA – MC said that Topofthegame was well fancied by his stable. MP thought that Delta Work was the best favourite at the festival. She thought thta Santini was a bit too slow. PS thought that it was an OK race with Delta Work on 156 and Topofthegame on 155. PS thought that Delta Work was bomb proof. He had Santini on 153 and thought that he was a talking horse.

Coral Cup – MT had Whiskey Sour as his nap. He goes well fresh and is thrown in at the weights.

Cross Country – PS thought that JP’s runners would improve past Tiger Roll this year. MT liked Auvignat for the race and thought that T42 would struggle.

Bumper – MC said that Getinthequeue was highly rated by his trainer.

I will post the notes for Thursday and Friday on the blog Wednesday evening.

    1. during the Cheltenham Festival i will only be posting non Cheltenham selections and only these will count in the months figures.
All my Cheltenham bets will be in the competition thread as to me the Festival is a spectacle to be enjoyed and a few bets enhances that enjoyment but those bets are just for fun.

  9. Colins bets and other bets will be later today for a lot of ice about just watching the kids sliding about so not worth the risk to fetch the papers yet and have a Taxi booked for 10.30,appointment with physio at 11.00 pick up papers on the way so bets should be on between 12 and 1.
Saw the consultant Friday afternoon and everything with my hip going well and do not need to see him again till next Jan for official discharge.
Did warn me about falling for muscles still not totally formed around the ceramic hip, so not worth the risk fetching the papers, for the hill have to walk down and up is a mini Mount Everest.
New method had 1 winner at SP 5/6 BOG 13/8 R4 25p and it had two 2nds out the other 3 bets one being very unfortunate the jockey dropped his whip and only failed by a SH 9/1 to 6/1.
    Colin.

      1. Martin
Many happy memories of Scarborough when working used to stay one night a month in the Ambassador Hotel South Bay,and one of my customers used to have the Filey dental practice and he lives on the outskirts of Bridlington, so happy times over there over the years.
His mother was up from Leicester when me and my son were over and they are German Jews, and she presented Hitler with flowers when she was a child, fantastic listening to her tales from that time, my son was 12 at the time and was a real history lesson for him.
        Colin.

  10. Yesterday morning I looked through the stats pack for the Ultima hcp and after going through the 10/10 stats I was left with one horse – Up for Review @ 20/1.
I parked the thoughts and went about my business for the day.
Last night I decided to back it and it’s 10 points shorter!! Bollocks.
Someone else also thinks it’s a stats positive.

    1. Much like a practice swing before playing your shot. I have found on the golf course that this does not make you play better. I just stroll up and give it a belt.

  16. Been posting these up on the free page the last week. But as there is no free post I’ll pop it up on here.

    1. oh no, was he 20s?? Bugger. Yea about to post up the shortlists etc, he is the only one that is 13/13 from all the 10/10 pointers, a few others not far behind. He does look rather solid, profile/form wise.

        1. ha, well that’s always the case this week, best not get worked up about missed prices, or what they were, still have to work out if an OK price at time etc. Yet to dive in properly, but having looked at him etc, i’m struggling to work out how he won’t be put up. Time will tell…

The New method will be up by 1.30 just running late after physio and walking home
    Colin.

    1. Two for this afternoon which are the first of my unexposed novice handicap hurdle bets. Usual handicap rules apply in that the odds shown are not intended as a minimum, they are there to indicate the point at which from 5 years data the value drops out to break even.

      Tau 3.30 Legend Lady (4.0)
Plum 4.55 Dartagnon Le Dun (4.0)

Back at 4.00 with at least one more for tonight.

      1. Hey Tim. Any chance to have them under separate name when posting, to make it easier to separate from your usual tips. Something like:
        Hcap system:

        1. Nick….. The methodology for these unexposed handicappers uses the Proform tissue odds so is no need for me to calculate a minimum odds requirement for them. It doesn’t work for the non hcp races cos they haven’t had enough runs so they will continue as they were. Five years of data says that they are very profitable in the long term, but the general strike rate is a little lower than the non hcp races so I’m going 1/2 point win. The odds in brackets is purely there to indicate as to where (over the longer term), the pinch point for value starts.

    1. Yep, all received. Just need to work out how to play it now! 🙂 Apples Jade I think from Fancis, and something i’ll throw in. Or maybe some outlandish treble!

  19. NEW METHOD

Do not back only proven to me, give it 3 months and prove to yourself, it is another old method revived like Elite which as had 2 winning months this year and in profit in March.
    Colin.

    1. Colin
Firstly, and most importantly, I’m glad the operation went well & you are feeling the benefits already.
Secondly, I understand fully why you are telling us to give your new system three months before parting with money but I am curious – are you backing them yourself?

      Phil Coverdale

      1. Phil
Yes i am backing them myself and have from the 1st of March and the other day when put the returns on here 16.7 at SP Bookmakers had backed them on BFEXSP.
Again it is an old simple method backed many years ago and it was successful no guarantee that it will be successful again but Elite certainly started well after many years of not looking at it.
Again you can only back so many methods or tipsters to feel secure about your finances, and i was backing myself along with Willie Mcfarland who hardly ever advertises is he successful yes he his, but the bookmakers closing me down could not get anywhere near on the Exchanges the prices had long gone by the time you could get £200 on, so stopped my subscription to him, which was sad for he gave me plenty of advice when starting my tipping service, and with him being one time first jockey to Nicky Henderson boy when he gave one of his doubled the stake.
        Colin.

        1. Good to hear things looking up with your recovery Col … still life in the old dog -)
Keep the selections going; the new (or is it the old)) method is producing some good results so lets hope the success continues

  25. Final update on Hip Op
6 weeks ago had op worked hard on exercise and walking and it all come to fruition today.
Friday saw Consultant very impressed does not want to see me again till next Jan to discharge me if everything is ok.
Monday saw Physio very advanced in his words and no more physio asked out of 10 what i thought my walking is at said 7 he came back and said on you first physio visit recorded you an 8.
Only started mentioning the op for i had no idea what to expect, and hope that passing my experience on could help someone when they have theirs.
12 days after op walked over 2 miles home from hospital expected to stop and ring for a taxi but got home ok so showed me can do more than i thought, from then on walked 3 mile plus everyday.
If reading a book at home do not sit down walk and read need to exercise the leg muscles.
Waiting for kettle to boil you can do extra exercises whilst holding onto the cabinetry.
Was a good sportsman in my day Football and Horse Riding so for me the challenge was to make a quick recovery.
Today at the age of 64 feel so proud of myself after only 6 weeks recovery well on the way and will be dancing this weekend and a beer first in 7 weeks.
Lastly stopped taking pain killers on Friday and feel fine.
Do hope my experience will help someone into the unknown, and in most cases you can do more than you think but always listen to the Doctor.
    Colin.

  28. Kemp 5.30 Strawberry Jack……. HCP

Not the best draw but not as bad (Proform stats), as you might expect. Oisin Murphy aboard and huge price so I’m on anyway. Breaks my heart when I miss out on one at big odds.

      1. It has thrown up a lot of big odds winners so is not out of the question but this Dartagnan Le Dun bothers me. Backed into favouritism and so far it hasn’t even placed. It looks very dodgy to me.

          2. Why nice start, the selection was unplaced in the 3.30 (my systems selection won the race, gloat, gloat)? Have I missed something earlier?

          3. It’s been a while since I’ve benefited from a misclick 😉

Hopefully its a sign of things to come!

          4. It will be in my books although still trying to make up for the 25 BFSP winner I missed out on last month.

          5. I’m backing them BFSP cos I have no choice and I know they are good to BFSP odds cos that is how Proform calculates them, but they should be profitable with bookies as the ROI is way above 50%. Nearer 100%. I don’t have any information as to their EW performance so can’t help with that.

          6. Another thing of interest is that the big profits come at an SP rank of equal to or greater than 4. The problem is that unless you are by your PC all day it’s not really relevant for most people as there is no way of knowing where the horse will end up in the market by the time they’re off.

    1. Yep, all received. Just need to work out how to play it now! 🙂 Apples Jade I think from Fancis, and something i’ll throw in. Or maybe some outlandish treble!

  30. Just had 32.50 credited to my BV account. The only thing i can equate it to is 2.50 i put on One For Rosie on Sat.They credited it sat, took it back after the debacle, and its back today,or is it just an accounting error

    Colin.

          1. Is back out to 60.0 now. It doesn’t take a lot to move them at these kind of prices. I was right about Dartagnan Le Dun though.

          2. Well done those that went each way…. I didn’t 🙁 did get 70.0+ for the win though!

          3. I had it each way at 50/1 and so well done Tim. I know it could have won but got 1/4 odds place and so a nice enough result.

          4. Francis
saw 75.0 on EX and only £7 in the pot at the price so for me difficult how that price could be claimed, for really only one person could back it.
            Colin

          5. He hasn’t claimed it, I am assuming he would have claimed the BFSP price.

I had a tenner at 65.0 on the nose, could have been a dream start to the Cheltenham week. Agonising.

          6. It was not Francis bet for him to claim my observation is really what tipsters do to manipulate figures, for some would claim 75.0 when nothing in the pot.
            Colin

          7. As you know Colin all mine are recorded at BFSP so it makes no difference in the end but Like I said when I posted it, it was a huge price and having had it on my screen all day I’d already made my mind up to get on whilst the odds were there. I take your point but I will always reserve myself the right to get on first. Not that I always do, it usually depends upon how good I feel about the bet and as to whether it’s likely to drift or not.

          8. Tim
The Exchanges are a pain in the bum has you well know, still trying to work out why PP and Ladbrokes bought into them certainly not for the punter.
Anyway best of luck with them, will be putting my groat or two on them.
            Colin.
