Daily Tips

4.15 Exeter – Pink Gin – 1 point win – 12/1 (gen) UP (4th) 22/1… ah damn… just a bit too much rain sadly! I knew they were due a ‘shower’, didn’t think it would go heavy, but even on soft i’d have had a go- he’s run a cracker, exciting until late on, and maybe a tad outclassed but def outstayed – Billy Bronco has relished what turned into a slog and he’s run before like he would relish such a test – Lithic just doesn’t like getting his head in front. Pink is one to watch NTO I think, esp if back in a C4/back to Wincanton. Decent effort.

4.45 Exeter – Pine Warbler – 1 point win – 6/1 (gen) UP 5/1… that just wasn’t that good- he was badly hampered which seemed to knock stuffing out of him, but as a jockey if you’re going up the inside of one that is jumping badly right, you’re asking for trouble. Travelled well up until then, in good possy, but you can’t say that cost him given effort thereafter. Poor but nothing should surprise at that level, I won’t dive into those races that often. He would have been in and around Billy B LTO at Uttoxeter.  moving on.

that’s all for today, 09.16, write up..

Pink Gin – I’m scratching my head as to why this one is 12/1 here and i’m preparing to read Twister’s facebook updated only to reveal he’s had a set-back or something! Gulp. But, given how odd this season is, and the flu break etc etc, at this price i’m going to assume that he just hasn’t run more recently for a valid reason. In any case, the yard are one of the best at readying handicap chasers after 60+ days, and the horse has gone well after breaks before. Pace… I assume they will try and make all here and I think he has every chance of dictating if he so pleases, or at least being up there. He doesn’t have to lead but is a solid jumper at his best. Yes he’s 11 but he’s a lightly raced 11 year old and his last run, on numerous figures, was the best chase run of his career to date. He missed a couple of years from 2014, so could be treated more like a 9 year old! At Wincanton he beat a Mulholland runner who was further back and on his next start at Uttoxeter put Lithic in his place. He has course form, which is always a positive and even more so around here I think. His November run was decent, not beaten far, staying on at the end. He is up in class here but he has a run at Wincanotn in a C3, beaten by Daklondike, where he split horses rated 120+/125s+ who have all done something since. I think he has the ability for this level. Cut in the ground isn’t an issue for him based on a few of his runs but he doesn’t like proper soft/heavy/sticky ground, which is was 2 starts back and was the excuse given for that run. But, he does look better RH also. He jumps, gallops and stays, and IF he runs his race/builds on LTO, he is no 12/1 shot here. He should be much shorter to my eyes.

Of the rest…well Garrane is short given he hasn’t won a chase yet but has run respectably. A repeat of those placed efforts would put him in the mix but he PU LTO after early errors and was never going, 47 days off since, he simply isn’t a value price here, but a danger at his best.

Spring Wolf also is too short – he is another lightly raced 11 year old but takes a massive step up in trip here into the unknown. Breeding suggests he may be fine, but 5s is a short enough price in which to find out. Given the distance move I assume they won’t be so aggressive on the front end with him, hopefully leaving mine alone.

Lithic, again didn’t look overpriced. He’s just hard to win with over fences although has ability – he was simply outstayed LTO over this trip, on an easier track. I’d have niggles about him getting home around here and he looked to have a hard race there. If he repeats that run he would go close enough I suspect, but there could be stronger stayers and he is now 0/11 over fences. He can still be a bit hairy with his jumping also and I was happy to take him on. He should be in the front 1/4 of the pack though, in the right spot.

The Ogle Gogle Man… he’s probably the one I fear most given his consistent form, but he is usually held up and that isn’t the place to be around here, and his jumping may be under pressure. I didn’t think his form was any better than the selection’s and the price disparity is confusing. His two wins were not in the strongest of races and those at the front may get away from him, and he’s had plenty of hard races now. He is a big danger if running his race, but again I could leave at 5s. He did run well LTO, so arrives in form, as is his trainer.

Maybe hoping all 4 of those get beat is asking for too much but i’m happy to leave them at the odds, clearly none of them would be a shock.

I can leave Billy Bronco given his form to date and that of the yard – they are going through a chilly spell and 8s couldn’t tempt me in. I’d want to see more over fences but he’s shaped a few times as if he has ability and a race like this in him, and gets the excellent Sean Bowen in the saddle. He may want further/more of a slog though. He’s 0/7,1p over fences and he can beat me here.

Bobo Mac is being backed, and I can kind of see why but given his recent form I was happy to leave him – he has the hurdling ability to have run much better than his last two runs, suggesting he is just out of form. IF/when he transfers his hurdle ability to fences, he will win, given the mark disparity and at his best he clearly has a touch of class. His early chase runs were not the best and this is competitive enough. His trainer doesn’t have the best record with horses after a break either and he’s 0/39 with his chase runners in the last two years. Happy to leave him today.

Pink Gin looked the one for me at the prices and I just hope he runs his race. He’ll be bang there if he does and I see no reason why he won’t. I couldn’t have the rest given their recent form, the questions they all have.

The market usually guides with Honeyball’s with this sort of profile/after such an absence, This Is It is interesting for the future as glimpses of ability but enough questions for now, first run back after a wind op.

*

Pine Warbler… maybe I’m an idiot for playing in a Class 5 handicap chase and I wasn’t planning to delve into this but having taken a look I thought he, even at 11/2, 6s, was just overpriced here and he should be fav. IF he repeats his last run he wins this in my view. He chased home The Ogle Gogle Man LTO, after 200+ days off in a class 4, and wasn’t beaten far, staying on at the line – the selection now drops into a mediocre class 5 – his rival from LTO is 5/1 in the class 4 above, i’d rather take the 11/2 for this one, in this race. He’s another lightly raced one for his age and while he’s yet to win a race, his attitude is fine. He really responded LTO, head down. He also jumped very well and again, pace wise, I expect him to be right up there, either trying to lead or not far off the pace. That last run, his first after a wind op, was decent, and he was an ok hurdler with some fine placed efforts – one in a c4 off 117. His mark is looking tempting here and he runs like a galloper who will enjoy this track. This break won’t be a problem and I suspect they’ve been waiting for some softer ground. The yard have done well with chasers in recent years- 10/54, 20p all chase runners in the last 2 years, and they are going well enough. It is all about whether he repeats/builds on that run LTO in a much deeper chase than this. If he does he’s the one to beat.

Buck Bravo is unexposed and ran OK LTO, but on ‘the figures’ nowhere near as good as the selection – he looks short enough now but is clearly a danger given his profile and he comes here on the back of a decent run – you want horses in form for me, certainly in a C5 chase.

I can’t understand The Boom is Back’s price given his profile. I assume it’s because the trainer is red hot but he needs the CP to work miracles, which they may do. I can leave him at 11/2 though and would have wanted 10s+ – he does have a point win to his name, this is quite the drop in class and that Chepstow run was solid – so I can see the case at bigger prices, but that’s long gone. He is unexposed and may now show his true ability. But the break and CP would niggle at me.  Big Time Frank keeps running his race in moderate C5 events, clearly struggles to get his head in front/battle and now gets another change of headgear. Backing this sort of profile at this level isn’t a wise long term strategy, esp at those odds. Not for me, albeit I suppose he is ‘solid’ and likely to run his race, which could be enough.

Kilcrea Bridge – I can leave given his win was in proper heavy, dourly staying on, again not in the strongest of races. He was tapped for toe LTO and I think that could happen again. He can get far back and at single figures I was happy to leave. But he is a recent winner, so that’s a positive. I’d like to think he may find one or two too good here and may be outpaced.

Silent Encore is unexposed and steps up in trip, and he runs as if it may suit. He’s one of the more interesting double figure priced ones but he’s now a 12 race maiden and has had a wind op…i’d want to see more before having a go.

Magic Mustard… could be ‘the lurker’ in here given connections.. but he was poor LTO on his first chase run under rules, and again i’d want to see more. Maybe the poor yard form at the time was rubbing off on him and they are going better now, he may also prefer going RH. His hurdles form would given him a squeak if translating it to fences – and if he’s clearly going well through the first half of the race, jumping well, I will fear him – esp if the money continues to come. But, you’re guessing plenty and they reach for the blinkers with him, so clearly feel he’s not putting it in. He may be worth some beer money on the exchanges. Trainer/jockey are 8/32,12p, +27 with handicap chasers returning 60+ days. Solid. Maybe the 700+ days and the heavy ground just did for him LTO but he’s clearly had issues. Hopefully today isn’t the day and he’s one to watch on his next couple of starts!

Best of luck.

Your help required/can you do me a favour please… 🙂

Free Festival Magazine…

It’s rare for me to put something up in the members’ post that isn’t mine, or Geegeez Gold/Inform/HRB, but as with every year I advertise the 32 page free Festival Magazine from the guys at freeracingtips.

Why do I do that you may ask… well… firstly it is a good magazine and something of quality to flick through while drinking your favourite beverage. If it wasn’t, I wouldn’t send it out, given I try not to send out rubbish and 95% of the time that’s the case. Apols for the other 5%.

Inside you’ll find:

⦁ In-depth analysis of EVERY single race, including a rundown of all the likely contenders.

⦁ Top Tips & Cheltenham Fancies – horses that have caught the eye this season that could be worth a cheeky punt at BIG odds!

⦁ In depth breakdowns of all the Feature Races.

And… well yes, for each person that signs up on their list to get the mag, they pay me £2. Importantly… you can sign up, get the magazine, and then just unsubscribe from their list, and I still get paid! (don’t tell them I said that) And it makes them more likely to email their list for me, to help grow my readership/membership etc.

This year, for every person who signs up, i’m giving 50p to charity – likely a re-homing of racehorses charity. So far 200 have signed up from when I sent out an email a couple of weeks back. So, that’s £100 in the charity pot. All for signing up for a free online magazine that’s a decent read.

If you could sign up, that would be great – as you get something decent to read, a charity gets some money, and I have some funds… which come to think of it.. if you all signed up to their free list (which you can unsubscribe from easily)… that would help pay for the tipping competition prizes for a few months. 🙂

By all means just tell me where to go (albeit preferably under your breath!)… BUT… >>>

YOU CAN GET YOUR FREE FESTIVAL MAGAZINE HERE>>>

Cheers!

Results Update

I owe you a results update for Feb/year to date, which this month will be for the main strategies, and for start of April i’ll bring everything up to speed again. ES+ … (aka S3A) is probably the story of recent months… another winner on Monday, for the red hot Neil Mulholland… In form yard, unexposed handicap hurdler, ran well LTO (staying on over 16f), step up to 20f, open/weak enough race, hacked up.

…and i’ve noted to myself to go back through all results to see how ‘double/treble top rated’ have been doing… i’ve a feeling there’s a strategy hidden in there somewhere, but I need to comb through every post and have a look. They are not that frequent but a few winners recently and it may be that it’s one of those 25/30% SR, +40-50 point a year strategies for the sticks. I can hope!

To follow Tuesday morning.

  1. Systems selections – Emma Lavelle Handicappers 5/1+.

3.45 Exe, Lady Markby. 1/2 point each way, some 33/1 still ablut but 28/1 generally.

    Tips.

2.45 Exe, Lamanver Pippin, 1 point each way at 16/1. In form trainer with a good course record in past 365 days. A poor run LTO but previously some promising efforts. The favourite of Nicholls looks short and the selection may be some value.
3.00 Newcastle, Lucky Lucarno, 1 point each way at 10/1. This novice now steps into handicaps for the first time. Sue Smith is in good form and has a good track record. Danny Cook rides.

    1. yep well done, Billy did that well in the soft, he has a very muddy 3m4+ chase in him you’d think, proper grinder. Good to see the Williams yard back in some form.

  5. Hi Josh
Been rushing about last couple of days and knowing I was nowhere near George and others in the tip comp I haven’t looked at results til late last night. Think I should be on the leader board with a roi over 60% unless I’ve made a mistake somewhere.

4.15 – Pink Gin won nicely over 3m 1f at Wincanton last time from a mark of 105 and is up 4lbs for that. Also ran well here over today’s trip to take 4th place on seasonal debut two outings previously from 2lbs lower than today. Looks to have another good each way chance today, in good form and can go close. Mark Grant rides.

It’s almost impossible to predict how the market will react up till race times. This one drifted badly and now is at maximum price.

  11. Always appears to be 2 bob racing the week before a big festival. I guess the BHA have to get the big prize money from somewhere, but I think today is an insult to punters everywhere. No doubt the bookies will be as busy as usual, but I’m not expecting anything much from it. I’ll post at 2.00 and 4.30 if only to confirm my suspicions.

  22. I hope no-one has any tasty looking antepost bets with BetBright. They’ve ceased trading and voided any such bets.

I never considered them a proper bookie anyway and would be surprised if anyone from here used them too heavily

    1. By void, does that mean they are just keeping all the bets??? No refunds? I assume that’s what in means. What a disgrace. I’m sure it will play out ok longer term- i’m sure returning X amount of AP bets won’t be that costly – of course whether they should honour them is a different debate again. Isn’t Mr Blobby chair of them, or was.

      1. Void probably means they are cancelling them. They will for sure return money, they have been sold to 888.com yesterday, but it is shocking they will cease to operate as a brand

        1. If they have been sold (as opposed to ceasing trading) then surely you’d expect the buyer to be purchasing the ‘book’ as part of the business?
Unless of course they have gone bust and 888 have bought the name out of administration.

Sounds shady on the part of 888 to me if they purchased the business and voided the current book!

Looks to have another good each way chance today, in good form and can go close. Mark Grant rides.

    1. Francis… our charity bet… I went to a preview evening in Liv last night, 3rd time in 4 years, panel is always good fun and Andy Holding on it, who is just brilliant. Will do a write up later today but… everyone was scathing as to Sir Erec at the price haha – said you’d find a better Evens money shot to back at Fakenham on the day! Agreement, and from bookie rep, was that he’s a talking horse, bookies fodder, and on the clock he isn’t that great. They also bashed Monalee a bit in terms of his heart/willingness to battle!
So, will stick to Sir Erec if you want (much high praise for Fakir D’oudaries who they think will send to Supreme and is in with a much better chance. Paisley Park is Andy’s nap of the meeting, along with a few others, his price may be more appealing than Sir E, given how bombproof he looks.
Anyway, will stick to Sir Erec for yours if you want haha. Still to decide what i’ll throw in with it!
      Josh

      1. Lol well seeing as I don’t study form, it would be rather foolish to not revise my pick on the back of that! Thanks for letting me know. Paisley park is tempting but was 6/1 post his last race and is now 7/4. Doesn’t strike me as great value.

Stick it on magic saint for grand annual and we will do an ew double instead

    1. Oh I know… I thought it was all or nothing, I just backed him BFSP! 64.00! Oh the pain. Balls. Still, a good EW return for those who follow it systematically and EW, which is best given the low win SR. Damn.

  26. 5 pm Wolv Astraea 1 pt win.
It’s almost impossible to predict how the market will react up till race times. This one drifted badly and now is at maximum price.

  27. Loving the Firebird 🙂

Gmeister, no outstanding stats tonite but I have Moon of Baroda and Decoration of War in a double to increase the Cheltenham bank 🙂 🙂

  29. Wolverhampton 5.00 Indian Affair 22/1.

Was forced wide last time, should get an easy lead on the rails and may just hang on.

      1. p.s just to confirm “Thats all folks” does not run in the 7.00 wolverhampton … wmsl 🙂

    2. So are these bets or just a tip in every race George? Colin would say that you would need a mega bankroll.

      1. Will have to rob a bank, to have a large enough bank for this lot!!!
Maybe keep an eye on 2/3 plus tips agree and see if the produce decent returns but 31 bets heaven help us next week.
        Colin.

    3. George
if i maybe so blunt so unlike me!!!
Much prefer that you put your own system bets up, where you had so much success last month, and i certainly made a few quid.
Rather than duplicating what others have already put on the board, maybe stick to two or three smiley faces which there are 6 today, against a grand total of 31, and see if over a period of time they are successful.
      Colin

      1. Gents, crikey, Martin – can’t you just read what he’s written! 🙂 They are simply a list of horses that appear on this page somewhere… by all means just ignore the sodding list! The more smilies, the more times they appear.

It takes a fair bit of time but is a bit of fun… George… yep you could just list those with 2 or more, would save you some effort as and when you have the time to post 🙂 Keep it up.

      2. Yes please, I agree with Colin.

Discussions and tips are good. Also any good racing books anyone has read that have not been previously mentioned.

The micros in Josh’s stats pack look interesting. I have a separate bank for them and well as a separate bank for Josh’s festival tips. Colin, you must be proud of me?

  31. BetBright
Just had an email from them that have 0 in my account, what a surprise could not bet with them.
It did say that you have 30 days to withdraw any funds and they advise logging in and withdrawing all remaining funds IMMEDIATELY.
    Colin

  32. sorry everyone .. i just give up 🙁
if this doesn’t explain what this is all about ..then sorry i will say no more 🙁

i was just trying to help ????
NO ….. EN OWE ……………….. THEY ARE NOT MY TIPS BUT A LIST OF EVERYONE ELSES TIPS ON HERE ?????????????????????????????????????

    OVER N OUT 🙂
    IT’S BEEN A BLAST ONCE AGAIN 🙂

      1. George just doing what has been asked of him by other members who are short on time I think. Might be a easier to read and more compact if done by course rather than time though.
        Mike 😛

  33. That’s 2 days on the trot that George’s long system list coincides with my selections. Fingers crossed you are onto something George.

    (Sorry couldn’t resist )

  34. As we used to say in South London when someone was a little slow to understand : “come in Laughing Spam!” 🙂

        1. yep when I read the sale etc I didn’t assume that meant BB would cease trading etc. We will see how it plays out but yep you’d assume they would refund.

          1. No they hadn’t gone bust. 888 bought the sportsbook technology and that whole side of things, to improve their business. They haven’t bought the customer base/existing accounts I don’t think. Albeit I don’t know too much.

  36. Baah humbug thought the S2A Firebird Flyer was going to provide the Cheltenham kitty there!

    1. Oh I know… I thought it was all or nothing, I just backed him BFSP! 64.00! Oh the pain. Balls. Still, a good EW return for those who follow it systematically and EW, which is best given the low win SR. Damn.
