Daily Tips (2017:+110,2018: -22.2, 2019: -7.4 ) Big Race/Festival Tips (2018: +143; 2019 1/9,2p, -1)

Daily Tips

2.45 T – Milrow – 1 point win – 15/2 Lad/Coral, 7/1 (gen) UP 12/1, market told the story there, sadly didn’t run his race, got him very wrong. In theory should have been much closer to the winner based on Ascot run.  One more race to go…

4.45 T  – Boutan – 1 point win – 8/1 (bet365/WH/BV) 15/2 (others) 4th 8/1

Best of the Jumps Stats Quals? (Nov 1st 2018: 29/152,68p, +2.8, 1 point win)

4.45 T – Blue April – 15/2 (betfS), 13/2 (gen) 2nd 3/1, ah sadly fav did prove too strong, handled conditions fine and clearly 10lb rise LTO was fair, has done that comfortably enough in truth. It looked promising for a time.

that’s all for today, 09.29, write ups incoming…

Milrow – I just couldn’t resit a go at 7s which will look massive IF he runs his race, and certainly if he repeats that run two starts back. It does look like he may be best on soft ground now and I think today could be very taxing. This 6 year old has yet to win a handicap hurdle but he’s put in some brave efforts in much better races than this – he has the best handicap hurdle form in here by a long long way, on what they have all done to date. It’s his first run in a class 4 handicap hurdle and he’s carried weight to victory before. In October 2017 he was finishing 2 1/4 lengths behind Thomas Campbell at Cheltenham over 24f. Clearly if he repeats that run he wins this. I’d like to think if he repeated his Ascot run two starts back over 22f in soft, he wins this also. He bumped into a well handicapped Nicholls horse there, but he kept plugging on. A lack of stamina won’t be an excuse at this easier track. I’m not sure what happened LTO but it was the Lanzarote, around Kempton on good ground. It could be that it just didn’t suit, or he was most likely outclassed, having to go quicker than he wanted to. This is no Lanzarote and in theory he should appreciate this calmer waters.  There are a few unexposed ones in this, but they do need to step up again and I didn’t think Carrig, Demon or Rosemary R looked overpriced – all of them do have to prove that they will stay this trip, and stay it in proper soft ground. For me that makes their prices skinny enough and I wasn’t convinced they would relish this sort of test, but I could be wrong. Milrow finished way ahead of Le Musee in that Ascot race and I was struggling to work out why he wouldn’t do so again, and why there was such a price disparity. Relying on a Leech horse is rarely a spot you want to find yourself in, but I think he should be winning this, and 7s looked big to my eyes. Leech is 2/20 here in handicap hurdles, 1/6 over this CD, and hopefully she can add to those stats. Her yard form is always an enigma, and plenty of her recent runners seemingly haven’t had a chance based on their odds.

Boutan – I wanted to take on the top two in the market here and time will tell whether that’s foolish or not but the fav is unproven on proper soft ground, and you’re guessing a bit as to whether he’ll handle it. If he does, then I could be in trouble but he has had 50+ career runs and was put up 10lb for his last win, albeit he did it easily. This is different ground to that win though and he hasn’t had many runs on soft, suggesting connections think he wants better. I’ll get onto Sky in a moment. Anyway… this mare gets another go over 19f, having only tried it once before and that was after a 180 day break. She runs as if she will relish it. She loves soft ground and her return to action two starts back was very good – that was after 343 days in a decent enough C4, over 16f on Good. She came a decent 3rd there, running on for pressure. The horse behind her that day was rated 110, the two in front 101 and 99. The winner would go close again NTO in a decent enough C4 also. LTO she was hampered early and couldn’t avoid a faller, who was getting to his feet as he took her out. So, a line can be put through that and given she returns here 9 days later it would suggest no issues. She drops back into a Class 5 here and is unexposed in these conditions – the hope is that this trip unlocks some improvement. Jonjo Junior gets a leg up also which caught the eye, especially given that in conditional handicap hurdles at Class 5 he has a formline of … 1, 1, UP, 2, 1, UP, 2. He’s 5/20,10p in all class 5 handicap hurdles so far. Miss Harris knows the time of day and this one has track experience, having found 16f too sharp here on a previous visit I think. In that race the five horses in front of her have since won 6 behind them and it was deep enough for the grade. She looked interesting at 8/1, especially if getting back to the form of that Warwick run, and if she improves for the trip/drop in class. She should be bang there after the last…

Blue April… she may be fighting it out with this one, who also looked overpriced. He was 20L ahead of Sky Full of Stars at Fontwell and there’s a further 7lb difference. I wasn’t sure why that form would be reversed as Sky went into that fit I think. In any case he’s 9 and is 8lb higher than for that win two starts back and he does have to prove he stays this distance in testing ground, over hurdles. I thought he was worth taking on at his price. Blue April ran very well two runs back on his seasonal return, in a race which has produced a few winners since in behind, including Sky of course. He has only races on soft, over 18f+, twice since Dec 17, winning once and finishing 2nd in that Fontwell race. 16f seems to be too short for him but he ran well LTO, hitting the front before the 5th, and only headed 3 out, where again he looked outpaced, and only gave way after the last, probably having been flat out for longer than ideal. He looks like a horse in form, as is his trainer. Rex also rides for the first time and trainer/jockey are 6/16,8p +11 when teaming up. He shouldn’t be a bigger price than the second fav in my view and I thought he’s get competitive here and out-run these odds. With any luck my two in this will be fighting it out!

  1. Having my worst spell of betting in years at the moment but in times like these you have to keep your discipline, it is so easy to lose your head and start doing stupid bets in desperation

  2. January results:

4/47, 19p +4.53pts and 4.95% ROI-Just goes to show that its very advisable to follow me as advised and not win only. Could have been better but just one of those months when plenty ran well but not won and with a couple more of those placed horses winning I probably would have hit +30. Obviously given the lack of racing and a lot of poor racing is shown given I would normally average closer to 80-100 tips in a month. Sadly given the lack of winners I was -16.49 BFSP to 1pt win bets although again the biggest priced winner was smashed in which didn’t help much.

Nothing for me tomorrow although there is one I like if it drifts to an e/w price but unless I post by midday assume nothing from me.

  3. Feb comp tips:
    no 5 – 2.15 Taunton – Save The Pennies.
    no 6 – 3.45 Taunton – Coded Message.
    no 7 – 4.15 Taunton – Uhlan Bute.

Also Coded Message, 1 point each way at 15/2 BOG and Uhlan Bute, 2 points win at 11/2 are tips.
Coded Message is a consistent performer at class 4 and steps up to class 3 here. Those at the top of the market here seem to have a few holes to me.
Uhlan Bute won well LTO and may have hit a form streak. A competitive race but 11/2 BOG looks worth a stab.

Systems selections: Emma Lavelle handicappers up to 3 miles.

2.45 Taunton, Lady Markby, 1 point win at 12/1 BOG.
4.15 Taunton, Fox Appeal, 1 point each way at 8/1 BOG.

    Good luck.

  4. February comp tip – 16.15 Taunton Silverhow 8/1 Hope to see this one lead with Tom Scu up, first time right handed since Sandown win, this looks weaker than last two runs
    To date W1/L1 +7.44 BFSP

    1. Well said Christopher. I have just posted on todays about an hour ago with my comments on my first 2 months as a newbie to RtoP (but certainly not new to Racing ! As stated there i have never had so many losers in my life BUT am sure i am on the right Site and Path here. How long have you been with RtoP ? All the best.

      1. A couple of years my advice would be not to try and follow everyone on here just pick out a one or two, I personally don’t bet Sundays as the racing is awful and it’s good to have a bet free day

          1. It was up on Paddy Power at 1.85 earlier and then shortened when the player who was calling was known.

    1. Hi Nick, interesting information – just shows what a difficult month it was all round and well done still making a profit! I for one will only ever follow your advice and not Win only. I feel confident things will be on the up as the year moves forward.

    1. Another tip for the comp – Caledonia Laird 16.55 Wolverhampton 13/2 – C&D winner, has dropped down the weights, jockey rides the track well and visor back on

  10. Head above the parapet.
    1st & 2nd tip this month.
    4.15 Taunton – Le Boizelo 11/2 & Touch Kick 4/1

Tight race this and I see the top 4 in the betting challenging for the top prize here.

I like the fact that last time the selection raced over the 3m 13K on a right handed track. I fancy LB to run upto its mark again in a race which is a slight drop in class. I do have a concern with the jockey though!!.

Uhlan Bute races in top form atm but is on its highest mark for the past couple of years & this race is stronger than the race it won lto.

Diplomate Sivola has been raised 13lb from its last run and this race is over a RH track. That’s quite a hike. The horse though is lightly raced & has scope to improve again.

Touch Kick, won over 21f RH 13K. Stayed on strongly to win having being outpaced. Beaten subsequently over 20f in more valuable races. Steps up in trip and down in grade. An improver me thinks and worthy of a bet.

  11. Throwing my hat in the ring for the tipping comp with a few of my HRB systems that have come to light from ideas bounced around these pages.

  13. Dotty Grand anyone thinking of backing Dotty should take a listen to Jamie Osborne’s video on lambourntrainers.com he his always blunt and mainly to the point and a terrific listen, mentioned him a week or so ago and the horse won today Dotty should not.
Enjoy his videos for he shows the runner and stable activity, for me memory lane.
Lastly spoke to Dai for an hour yesterday and he was cursing the ground and lack of rain for most of his would prefer gd/soft or soft, he has had a hard 10/15 years but he his back up to 19 runners and last years prize money was pretty good according to the Racing Post.
He was sweet on an 8yo Babbytaggle said a very promising young horse, however will treat it with a pinch of salt but if he puts a top jockey in the plate then i will take notice, Sam Twiston Davies has had a few rides along with Richard Johnson has a few select rides over the years.
Do with it what you wish for rare over the years do i back his runners, maybe that is why the friendship survived so long.
    Colin

  16. Feb Comp Tip:

  17. Yesterday won bsp 12.45. Running total, bets 3, won 1, +9.45.

Today’s tip Chelmsford 4.00 Charlie Alpha.

Caught late twice here this Winter over 6f off 1lb lower mark, 5f today. Sire stats are better at 5f, 12.5%, compared to 6f, 8.5%.

Hasn’t run to that level of form anywhere but here so I will forgive his below par run at Lingfield last time.

Trainer has no winner since last February, losing run of 62, but has had winners around this time 3 of the last 4 years. Think positive.

  23. Josh, just to say i was on v late last evening so you may have missed this – slightly amended as i missed a word or two out!

Analysing things i had included with S1, S2A and S3A# were both W1 and your ‘Best of Jumps stats qualifiers’ which i started with perfect timing – right at their Peak (now you know the reason for the slide ha ha As does Colin – his worst January! )Sadly following those 3 really has been the my main downfall (hindsight hey) I clearly am following Nicks too, and have picked up your previous comments re perhaps just following S1 and S3A #. (and your BR Tips) I will ponder as i realise that you did say at the start not to have too many on the go – you were right there. – clearly i got caught by the ‘kid in a sweet shop’ syndrome. Thanks for your input – onwards and upwards John

  24. Feb Tip

    1. It is a good piece. I think that what it reinforces is that it is important to continue to look for ways to get ahead of the norm when trying to find winners. To coin a phrase ‘zag when others are zigging’.

  31. Hey Josh would you please consider starting an unluckiest punter of the month award… Just so I know what’s it’s like to win something. 6 races so far today I’ve had a go at and 5 second place finishes. Somebody comfort me and tell me everything is going to be ok haha. Heads screwed right now. Lovely game this

  34. I’ve been in two minds on this one as it has a fair chance of being the first one to pull up however at the price I couldn’t leave so pulling out the rare smaller stake. Will count at 1pt win for the competition:

    Cloud Hopper Taunton 16:45 0.5pt e/w 40/1

    1. Good luck Nick clueless how you have dug this one up, 7 races never been placed SP 20/1, 100/1, 150/1, 200/1, 66/1, 33/1, 50/1.
Trainer Jamie Snowden quote on Cloud Hopper
Has shown nothing to date and we’re hoping not expecting the tongue tie to help.
      Hope it wins!
      Colin.

      1. Purely by his run 3 starts ago he was 7L behind a horse now rated in the mid 120s. He would have needed it 2 starts back and last time the trip was too long. May fall out the back of the TV but at the prices was worth a small bet to find out particularly as this could be very testing and the front two in the market have very big weights and plenty of deadwood although that may include the pick.

Would appreciate you post those sort of comments after the race in the future Colin.

        1. Had to reply and understand your feelings however earlier in the day put up a message about one of Jamie Osborne runners Dotty Grand from his video on Lambourn Trainers hoping that it would stop anyone backing it, and it duly lost.
Recalled a negative message from Jamie Snowden about Cloud Hopper so decided to look into the race for i back your bets myself and still struggle to understand how it was a bet, and yes you said that it could be out the back.
Mellow Ben three races ago was only 7 lengths in front of Cloud Hopper however totally different conditions for on this day the going was Heavy an all Mellow Ben’s form is on Good with the odd Gd/Soft.
The winner that day Seasonal Spirit has had 8 races since and managing 1 second out of 8 races, the write up of the race.
Tracked leader Blundered Badly 5th ridden to lead between last 2, Hit last, stayed on well,
Yet with 2 blunders one bad he still beat Cloud Hopper 23 lengths.
Did not put up that message to have ago at you respect you to highly same has Dotty Grand and Cloud Hopper both trainers were very negative on Lambourn Trainers and that is what i was really passing on their negativity.
Am reading the races and yesterday one backed from 7/2 to 2/1 and could not finish in the first three, o for a winner i cry!!!
          Colin

      1. Can’t cut myself a break right now. Ran ok I suppose but backed into a price that nobody could have considered to be value given it was 9.0 at lunchtime. I had a smile on my face when it lost. Crazy Betfair sheep!

  38. Tip:
1pt ew Melo Pearl 2.30 Chelms. First run for new trainer, who does well with new recruits. I tipped it at Newcastle when it was abandoned, so fingers crossed.

    1. Haha, well i’ve had a few of those recently but i’ve been more at the ‘shit punter’ end of the scale than the ‘unlucky punter’ in truth! I take more comfort from second places, esp if decent odds/beating SP etc – if they are going close that is always a bigger positive than a negative- you’d rather that then constant back of the TV jobs as would indicate that the analysis is just wrong/isn’t working etc. You must be doing plenty right, and if you keep doing it, the tide will turn! I’m a win only punter in general, bar Nick’s tips really, but that’s always an option IF you think a run of minus X points of placed horses may affect you mentally to the point where it affects your judgement/analysis/wanting to attack the puzzle. Keep plugging on, as it will turn!

      1. It all depends on price whether I back ew or not….I finally knick a race in photo. Turns out it’s one of two I put up for the tipping competition aswell so maybe there’s light at the end of the tunnel haha. It’s full of ups and downs this game, it’s why we love it 🙂
