Best of the Jumps Stats Quals? (Nov 1st 2018: 29/148,66p, +6.8, 1 point win)

4.10 S – Straight Run – 10/1 (bet365/BetfS/PP) 8/1 (gen) UP, poor.

that’s all, 09.20, write up on way…

I wanted to have a go at this one at double figure odds, and maybe it’s a sign of desperation, we shall see, but everything would indicate a big run is on the cards here for me. He’s only one of two with a handicap win on soft to his name and both his career wins have been on that surface.  He keeps his best form for Sedgefield and he’s 1/6,2p over CD. Hammond has miraculously got his mark back down into winning range! He’s 1/9,3p in hncp hurdles OR 80<, 0/12,1p above this. It was only 7 runs back that he was winning over CD, beating 6 horses rated 100+ in the process, inc the 2nd and 3rd, with a few others in the race also. What with this useful looking jockey’s claim, he runs off 68 here, and has a 15lb swing than when facing the fav two starts back, beaten 20L, on ground he wouldn’t have enjoyed. The yard are in form – and that’s rare for them – 1/5,3p in the last 14 days and trainer/jockey are 1/5,2p. She has experience of riding this one on seasonal debut 3 starts back where he ran ok to a point, the three in front of him there were rated 105+, and he probably needed it and the ground wasn’t soft enough. Two starts back he was 40s ridden by an inexperienced jockey and he was never put into the race, but plugged on. His mark has fallen 9lb in four runs. He also gets his winning headgear combo back, the CP returning having tried the hood LTO, and he drops back into a C5. He’s probably a solid EW bet, although using such a term with a Hammond inmate is never wise.  This doesn’t look that deep, clearly Baratineur may hack up, although with Copt Hill in the race hopefully neither get an easy lead. He does have attitude questions and his losing run is mounting up. He didn’t look the most genuine two starts back, or not like he really wanted to go past. He seems short but is the correct fav and maybe i’m foolish for taking him on but this is a lowly level and it’s his first run here. Sam England does have a very good record with 1st CP – 4/7 now I think, gulp, and they do need to make a difference. Even if he runs his race- given the ground is in my favour, and what with the weight swing, there may not be much between them anyway, on paper at least. This jockey looks tidy in the saddle, and hopefully she can drive this one home.

There don’t appear to be any unexposed/could be anything types in here as such. The only potential would be Tim Easterby’s 4 year old, who is now 0/17,1p in his career and was rated 48 on the flat. I can leave him but I supoose he ran ok to a point LTO. This ground would be a question.

  • OK….Here is a thought..just going to throw this idea out there……what do Josh and subscribers think of starting a Scoop 6 betting pool combining the collective knowledge of us all to try and win a big pot that can be shared equally between all who wish to participate…if Josh and and others think it is not appropriate to discuss in this forum that is fine…at £2.00 a line each this would be a cost effective way of all having our £2.00 worth…obviously if this were to be something that would be of interest then would like to hear what people think of the idea for starters if considered an ok idea for discussion.

with betting banks getting hammered or at best like a boat in the doldrums, not going anywhere.Hopefully colins message of BANKS BANKS BANKS has been heeded. Many a successful business folds due to cash flow, order books are bulging, stock room is full to the gills, machines in the shop floor are buzzing but upstairs there’s a problem, suppliers are calling on overdue invoices, debtors are stalling payments, wages to be paid and the bank is in Bangalore.
My own approach with a betting bank is to start the year with a set amount and bet 1% of that initial amount for the year. The idea of doubling your stake when the bank doubles is great in theory, but as sure as night follows day,you have a prolonged run of success and you make that 100pts in a short spell, double your stake and the slump comes, loose 50 pts and you are back to square one again.
The stats don’t run on a straight line upward trajectory, long troughs and spikes. There will be a day when they pull in 50pts in a day or 100pts in a week. The important thing is not to be bust when it happens.Patience and discipline and look on each loser dispassionately.

I think trainer form has been all important in January. Nicholls horses look to be back, Pauling is in great nick and Emma Lavelle continues to hover for me. Hendo seems a bit low at present but maybe they are resting for the big push to come?
Anyway it’s a long game and the bookies are still there to be got at. As Corporal Jones would say (and this applies to Everton as well) ‘They dont like it up’em’.

  • TRAINER TRACK STATS – from Matt Bisogno, Geegeez
I m sure some people will have seen Josh recommending this FREE report, and will have got it or pondered. For what its worth i m pleased i did and i think it’s terrific. A great addition to anyone’s armory i feel and especially those who can add there own analysis to it – unfortunately i’m time limited on that score at present.
For those who haven’t seen it there is an A team list of 45 trainer/track combos and they have a terrific record, and then the ‘Director’s cut’ ( the B list if you like) which comprise 61 next best combos.
Out of interest there was a cracker at Doncaster yesterday where Nadiatal Won at 12 (BSP 15.0) although it was on the B list and so i didn t back it (Mr Sod and all that 🙂 )
Matt does warn that backing all qualifiers is not likely to result in the high Win rate (40% for the A team) continuing nor the high ROI (102% for the A s) so caution required. Out of interest i emailed Matt to see if they have a ‘Flat’ equivalent, but sadly they don’t and although no plans at present he said ‘we’ll see nearer the time’
So JOSH, any chance of a bit of a subtle elbow there ? not sure what others think but i would be happy to pay a sensible fee for such a Flat version?
Hope this helps those who have n’t got TTS yet!

    • John,

Replying to your comment yesterday I think one of the main issues this month is the lack of rain has created a lot more days where we have had sticky going. It is not soft but takes considerably more getting than spring/summer good ground and the biggest issue is that currently it is not recorded so we are left guessing as to whether the horse will handle it. I have tried to find horses who are not ground dependant but I’ve certainly been caught out once or twice. I’d love for them to record it but not sure how they can.

Nick Mazur 27/01/19 10:33 AM Reply

      • Thanks Nick, yes i have noticed that comment a few times now and it seems it must be a strong factor. All credit to the few like yourself who have managed to get closely either side of Break-even for the month. I mean to keep a strict record of each ‘element’ i am following with W/L and P/L but i just havent up to now. Appreciate your comments.

Although with my luck at the moment I would go small stakes, nothing ventured etc…

  • Tigeralley Fontwell 16:00 1pt e/w-15/2-This race clearly revolves around the favourite but he didn’t exactly destroy a class 5 chase field LTO. The pick is an odd recruit to the Skelton yard making his rules debut at the age of 10, however he is bound to be better than his current mark and given he was a 3m PtP all his racing under rules have been very much on the short side. Despite he ran OK on handicap debut last time in a race where the winner was 2nd NTO and the 2nd and 3rd have won since. He is now stepped up 6f and I definitely think this will suit.

        gl/gb ( yesterday was a prime example 4 system bets and about 12 “fill in’s” i made a loss )

        gl/gb 🙂

    • Another disappointing day…bit like the weather at the moment, pretty dismal! See what tomorrow brings…a bit of sunshine would be nice.

  • Get the feeling I’m trying too hard to find something and it’s pretty poor stuff today anyway. So decided to keep the powder dry and wait it out for better opportunities next week.
