2.40 Plumpton : Sussex National
Calin Du Brizais – 1 point win – 14/1 (UniB), 12/1 (bet365/BV) 11/1 (the rest) 2nd 14/1… well happy enough with that run, I can’t complain. A decent run for my money all the way round and I lived in hope until just after the last. The fav was too strong sadly, and got away with the ground/track. I thought he may have been over racing and lived in hope he wouldn’t find much heading for home, sadly he did!
I thought this consistent horse was worth a go at 12s or so here, given this is the furthest he’s run over and he’s always shaped/’stayed on’ as if he’s worth a go at 3m4f+ over fences. Tom Cannon jumps on for the first time, and takes over from a capable yet inexperienced jockey who’s ridden him plenty in recent weeks. Hawke can ready a horse after a short break and it does look like he’s been freshened up for this. He relishes decent ground and I think he may do so more than some of these in here. He should be able to track the front runners and if he handles the track i thought he’d be staying on at the line. This mark is a question but this trip/conditions could unlock more.
Of the rest… well the chance of The Two Amigos and I See You Well is obvious I suppose. Both are unexposed and in form. The former has been whacked 10lb but will jump/travel on the front end and will clearly stay – I’m not sure it will stop him. This livelier ground is a question but he’s the worthy fav. I See You Well didn’t do much wrong LTO and may enjoy conditions also but i’ll take them both on, which may prove foolish, we shall see. I was happy to leave the others at the odds.
The market may guide for mine and if he keep drifting beyond 12s I may get nervous, but everything points towards him running a solid race here I thought.
Best of luck.
