3.35 Ascot – Ramses De Teillee – 1 point win – 14/1 (gen)
NOT GB bred / 0-3 hncp wins / 0-3 chase wins / 0-2 hncp chase wins…
Adrien Du Pont / Geordie De Champs / Ramses De Teillee / Solighoster
I looked at some stats/trends for this one in the members’ post and they pointed me to this ‘winning profile’ of sorts. Of those above, at the prices, I’m happy to roll the dice on the Pipe horse.
This has been the plan for this one and Pipe can ready them. He’s won this race before also. While the yard is arguably in the doldrums a bit, and has been for a few years, when he gets a good chaser, he knows what to do with them. This one was very impressive in the first half of last season, aged just 5, having bolted up a few times with impressive displays of jumping and galloping, and an ability to quicken in heavy. He finished 2nd at Fonwell off 12-1 where he didn’t quite get home over 26f but the horse that beat him would win Wetherby’s big G3 handicap chase on his next start. The Exeter run wasn’t too bad either, before the wheels seemed to come off. Well, by the time he got to Cheltenham he’d had a busy campaign for his age and conditions wouldn’t have suited on his final start of the season. He’s had a wind op since and his mark has dropped 7lb from it’s high. He should prove himself to be well handicapped at some point and has a bit of the ‘could be anythings’ about him, unlike a few in here. This is his trip. The question is whether this is his ground. If this is too quick I expect him to be pulled out. If he isn’t then there are no excuses as Pipe is quoted as saying that Good to Soft should be fine, and this going stick reading of 6.4 has been ‘good to soft’ at previous jumps meetings. Let’s hope there’s some moisture in the ground. He’s an unknown quantity on this ground. It could be he needs heavy but at this price, given all of the above and the stats profile, i’ll take a chance. He should race prominently tracking the pace, and be in a no excuses position.
I couldn’t have the rest at the prices, but won’t fall off my seat if Geordie De Champs or Adrien Du Pont win, but their prices felt about right/not overly generous.
Best of luck
