Daily Tips

4.20 Thirsk

Kenny The Captain – 1 point win – 9/1 (gen) 3rd 4/1, ran his race, close but not quite close enough.

Rantan – 1 point win – 9/1 (gen) UP

4.05 Strat – Call Me Vic – 1 point win – 7/1 (gen) UP. Decent early position, no excuses. Maybe his legs can’t go that pace anymore, a flat run. The unexposed fav did step forward and was fairly impressive given his inexperience. Poor.

Thirsk… I did focus in on the stats picks above and both the selections appeared a shade overpriced to my eye, and they both looked the most interesting in here. Kenny won the race last year and with the 7lb is only 1lb above that winning mark. He is well-in on plenty of old form and he is a C4 animal on turf, so I can forgive that last run. That run a few starts back at Ayr was decent, given the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th have all come out and won since, and he’s had excuses since. Maybe the Hamilton run was a tad underwhelming but he ran well enough and the front 4 were miles clear of the rest. He won’t mind what the weather does either and the softer probably the better for him. He’s 3/9,5p in September also. I didn’t think there was loads of pace in here and he’s one of the few to race up there, Whether his high draw is a positive or negative we shall see. When it goes soft low is usually the place to be.

Rantan…so i’ve got high drawn/front runner covered, and now with this one I have low draw/hold up covered also! He won a seller here a few starts back in impressive enough fashion, especially how he moved through the race 2f out. He ran well in the Great St Wilfred consolation LTO which was a better race than this I think. He was marooned up the middle there/on the wing but stayed on well enough, suggesting he was a horse in form. He ran well at York a few starts back also in a race that has worked out very well. He was on the wrong side that day and the jockey moved him over to the nearside. He tanked through it but had nowhere to run and the race was over when a gap came and the jockey effectively stopped riding. There’s a niggle about a lack of pace low here but i need to trust the jockey to be smart. He knows him better now and I don’t think he’ll mind softer ground either. Hopefully he, and not his stable mate, can improve on his trainer’s 3/8,5p record in C4 6f handicaps at the track in recent years. There’s two at  a price above that I haven’t tipped and of course we know what happens now. I thought they both had a few too many questions and the selections looked much more interesting, but we know how this goes! “)

Call Me Vic… I thought he should be second fav here having looked and certainly not 5 points or so bigger than the fav, who needs to step up on some OK novice form- he’s young and the yard are on fire, so no shock if he does but I thought worth taking on at the odds. This is the toughest chase he’s raced in and needs to step up. Call Me Vic…well he’s a chaser in winning form and they’re always worth a second look. He won well enough LTO, having been in front for an age and idling. The right horse chased him home and he came out and won on his next start. The rest could all still be running. He travelled and jumped that day and built on a return to form at Uttoxeter where he stayed on. While he’s 11 he is lightly enough raced for his age over fences and I thought he’d be able to travel behind the pace here and then out-stay them all turning for home. He’s a C3 animal and he’s still well handicapped against form from last season, having been in the mid to high 130s. He probably isn’t as good as he once was but this isn’t the strongest of races on paper. I preferred him to the Williams horse who didn’t look over-priced and the rest have questions. The Hobbs horse is usually held up but has fitness questions, but some money was coming. Bowen’s looks out of form but his can bounce back. I don’t like wading in on seemingly out of sorts chasers esp when there doesn’t appear to have been a ready excuse. Cushee Bridge is interesting enough and could be the main danger under the champ…he is usually held up but has been running ok. He’ll prefer this step up in trip and is no forlorn hope, but does need to step forward again. Pace…well it’s interesting as on paper there is plenty but there could be reasons for why a few don’t go forward. Call Me Vic is versatile. He’ll either try and track the fav or he’ll be behind 3/4 who may be going to quick, and may set it up for him. So there shouldn’t be an excuse. I just hope it’s clear early he’s travelling within himself and a pace where he is comfortable. There’s a small chance he gets taken off his feet but his class/form should hopefully mean he doesn’t. He was quick enough last year to win around 20f at Aintree.

Festival Tips

2.45 Ascot

Zhui Feng – 1 point EW – 22/1 (gen) UP

Sea Fox – 1 point  EW– 40/1 (bet365/UniB/Coral/BV) 33/1 (gen) UP

(will be declared to 1/4 4 places if a positive result, albeit 5th 5 places around plenty also)

Ah, well that didn’t go very well. Sea Fox was just poor having been in a prominent position. He was a bit of a stab. Zhui Feng was poor.. i think he did too much on the front end but there was also a strong headwind apparently and being out in front then isn’t the place to be. Still, that was poor. I expected at least one to place hence the staking. Damn. The winner was no shock but I was never tipping him at 7s personally, not given his running style etc, but Watson seen to superb effect again. Both horse and rider have had a very good season. Moving on.

  1. U.S. Racing Tip – Gulfstream race 9, 11.02 UK, Gran Saman, 8/1 circa 1 point each way. If a non runner go to Tenacity Zip same bet.

    Good luck.

    1. OK that was worth the work then! We go to Belmont race 8, 10.18 UK time, Lady Suebee, 7/1 BOG, 1 point each way. If a non runner then Broadway Run, 2 points win.

      Good luck.

      1. The selection was a loser. The tips tend to focus at Saratoga and when there is no racing there you will see a drop off of the number of tips to maintain current profit levels. We need to put in more work away from Saratoga.

    1. It’s a frightening article, and I have experienced the same disgraceful nonsense of having accounts restricted.
10 years or more ago I had a winning McCoy treble at Wetherby on Bet 365 which returned over £3000. From then on my account was restricted to pennies and I quickly closed my account.
Last year following a good little run, both Ladbrokes and Sky Bet starting playing ‘silly buggers’ restricting me with no justification or reason, and I have closed them as well.
I took advantage of the Ladbrokes Price Boost but once you start winning they rein you in with impunity.
I am 58, and have followed racing for many years. Some years are fantastic and others fallow, but the bookie always wins in the end, so to restrict customers is folly and short sighted.
I painstakingly study races to my own trends based formula, and rarely work on information and yet some bookies hiding behind their faceless traders treat their loyal customers with contempt.
Thanfylly many are still open for business and we can rejoice in that.

    2. ‘50,000 restricted’?
That looks a gross under estimate across the whole industry bearing in mind that you don’t have to win much before being labelled by ‘the enemy’ on trivial evidence.
Is there any data out there?

      1. i think your right Chris 50,000 is way on the low side, it’s the ridiculous restrictions that force you to close an account that hide the true figure of account closures by the bookies. i have 5 accounts left (apart from BF) that i can use fully.

          1. Have you tried getting a bet on with some of the bookies who now have a minimum liability guarantee? You should be able to win up to £500 with Betvic on all races, and the same with PP / BF on televised races. Sky have just introduced something similar on higher class races.

          2. I have tried that.

I got on once with BFSB at decent odds.

Victor have been under price compared to their normal price quite a lot. Had 2 bets though.

Hope to try Sky in about 20 minutes.

It’s a great initiative though and the more bookies that do it, the better the odds will get.

          3. Thanks for highlighting that Neil. I got restricted by Sky recently. Was only allowed 33p but just tried a bet for £5 and it went through.

    3. Re Bet Victor, I am still up and running after some wins. They did refuse me a Yankee that would have paid circa £5K but they did pay me out on one in the week, when Gordon Elliott was at Sedgefield, for £1,100. So some credit to them.
What I do not like is when you get restricted/closed after one decent bet, ala Ladbrokes, Boylesports etc.

      1. In that case your account mustn’t have been totally restricted. The £500 minimum liability guarantee is a separate market which doesn’t have BOG and doesn’t allow you to do multiples.

So you should have access to whatever you can get on normally with them, as well as up to £500 from the win part of your bet on the new market.

        1. They let me back on after the change in policy. I am just reporting back what has happened so far. I do have three accounts live now, Bet Victor, Star Sports and Bet365 but 365 restricted for horse racing only at present to a limit that seems to change, but circa £500. I am of course active on four exchanges as well. I just get on with it and understand why they restrict me, although they should allow me to win five figures from them before they do what they do I think?

          1. So have you been placing bets using the same market as you did before you had your account closed, or the new one? Just trying to work out if there’s a way I can multiples on with them too

          2. I don’t know if this is relevant, the only accounts I’m restricted on are where I have never put on a multiple bet, Paddy Power restricted me in under ten bets, I have won 4 figures on 3 occasions on multiples without any restrictions, I constantly beat the odds, must of my bets are placed the night before, I think it might be that I do multiples quite often and they see that as a mug punter bet.

          3. Yes it seems that way. I only do Trixies or Yankees on bookmaker sites and maybe they look ‘Mug Punter’ ish? I stake up to £250 on these type of bets?

  2. I don’t really have the time to look at race cards on a regular basis and so I will do away with the tally from now on (I think it was +4 points when I “retired”).

Anyway there is one I really like tomorrow in the shape of kimifive – 16.30 Ascot.

5 starts back – won easily like an improved horse
4 starts back – comfortably backed that victory up under a penalty
3 starts back – finished 6th but accounted for his side of the field quite readily
2 starts back – second but best ignored (small field, muddling gallop etc).
1 start back – finished 4th but all sorts of trouble in-running, hitting the line really hard.

All in all, I’m convinced he is well ahead of his mark and this should be within his compass.

Top price 15/2 currently (2 point win in old money!)

  3. One winner at 9/4 tonight at Kempton but a loss of 2.75pts on the day.

Two AW meetings tomorrow at Kempton and Wolves. Qualifiers below:

    Kempton
2.05 Weekender 25/1 (EW) (2 places – up against Enable, eek!!)
    5.35 Envisaging 10/1

    Wolves
    5.45 Tiny Tempest 11/2
    6.15 Rene Mathis 4/1
    6.45 Fizzy Feet 11/2
    7.45 Mr Reckless 11/2
    8.15 Sbrasse 4/1
    8.45 Mrs Burbridge 6/1

1pt win except where noted EW

    Good Luck

  4. i’m having what is for me a fair old punt on Threading 11-1 Haydock 2-25, don’t know whether it’s the price that has drawn me in but she has won on soft and good/soft and finally can get her toe in today after running on good/firm.

    1. Trainer out of form and the favourite looks like an improver! Not a big bet in my eyes but good luck.

Have a drink on me if it goes in.

      1. Josh, What is your problem with me?

Via private email, we seem to have no joy. Has a sign of friendship, i made the journey to Pontefract. Apart from the above, i think we need to clear some air in the public domain.

Since the day i went live i have never mentioned the name of my site. In fact, there is no reference to it because the post was removed!

I have posted since going live, with good intent and food for thought in some cases. Honesty being the best policy….re spike in profit at the start of the month. My members were fore warned. It doesn’t reflect on the bets they are placing.

Darren C posted on the day ‘COSMELLI’ won @66/1 , about the new ‘twitter tipper’ Geraint Williams. You did a guest post. I don’t recall you having words with Darren C with regards of promoting another service……..?

From what i understand, you don’t , or profess not to, gain anything from the organisations or services you promote. Therefore, why be on the defensive and say you don’t get anything from me in return….? I remember you thanking me immensely for posting when we rubbed shoulders???

I freely mention the services you also use(along with yours) with no benefit to myself. God knows why you spat your dummy out about geegeez in regard to spending circa 4k on learning how to use it and it was as though it was your god given right be the only one who should benefit. No wonder you removed it.

I have never seen anyone post other services tips…ie SP2A,SOD, NTF or any other service with the intent of copying. So why would i now post my tips on here. Yet i have …freely!

Think you need to remember your reasons for starting up. Think you need to realize that some people have the feeling that started to reach for your slippers!. …. What i do differently is i use a daily approach. Systems have a shelf life Josh, VALUE is were the game is. Alternative markets are a gold mine.

Yes….ban me. I’ll ask for a full refund. You’d be no different to the bookies suspending accounts.

I have the utmost respect for what you do Josh. It takes time and dedication. There is no point in people requesting that i post my tips on here. They are freely available at no cost elsewhere.

    1. Jarrod,

why not post up a selection of your tips before they run here as a sampling menu for members?

A sample would not cost you anything.

      Anyway good luck finding winners.

      1. I suspect Josh’s issue is that Jarrod is trying to make money for himself, from the user base that Josh has built up over the last 3-4 years building. I suspect one of the reasons that Josh has built up such a loyal following is that his site isn’t full of people trying to flog their own services.

      2. He did start posting and they kept losing so now comes on after timing. All quite disrespectful to this site. Can you just ban the guy please?

    1. Hi Mike. A couple of questions re. results.
      1. I assume the totals are based on 1pt win? Do you have any info on ew?

      2. Do the profits take into account the previous bets placed? eg. if it is the 4th run since the tip, the total stakes to date would be 5pts. Or are they based solely on the individual run?

      1. Hi Ken,
Results at 1pt win. I don’t have stats for e/w although there may be possibilities. I’m going to go through all past stats to split flat/nh and can expand it to e/w at same time. I’ll make a start tomorrow but maybe midweek before complete.

The stats include all losing runs for each nag but the profit for say 4th run are based only on 4th runs. Does that make sense?
        Mike

        1. Thanks Mike. Yes that all makes sense. Don’t want to put you to too much bother but would it be possible to work out the net profit for each no. of run ie. returns minus overall stakes to date. I think that would give a truer picture of the profit and might support the theory of 3/4 strikes and you’re out. If you keep betting the same horse there must come a point when its not worth continuing. If it’s too much work, no worries.

      1. And another one! A couple of nice winners there for my recent losing tips on their next run. Premature by 1 again. Frustrating but more profit to add to that angle anyway.

    2. Mike do you by any chance have a breakdown of the results for Recent Tips by run eg 1st run, 2nd run, 3rd run etc. Also Thanks for posting these every day. Much Appreciated.
      Russel

      1. Russel…the last update with a full breakdown I put up in section 4 on 5th of September’s post. You’ll find it in there if you scroll down. Josh

  6. Chris M Selections:

    Haydock:

Goods luck with your bets today 🙂

  7. Tips – 3.35 HP Speedo Boy, came from too far back last time when well fancied and I think he will like any give in the ground. 2.40 KP Hieronymus – looks good for Nursery’s and can step forward from some already decent efforts. 3.15 KP Honeyman – won well previously and although Lawmaker has a turn around in the weights I think that the selection can go forward. 4.15 HP Taslett each way, was second in the race last year and there must be some doubts around Harry Angel.

    Good luck.

  9. Anyone got any thoughts as to why Squats can’t win again this afternoon in the 2:45 Ascot (22/1 and there’s 6 places on offer at Sky) apart from the common opinion he never wins after a win? As a 2yo he followed up and at Ascot over 5f.

    1. yep i did look at him and that price may be a tad insulting. Not one i’d trust fully and I decided I thought it would be hard to come from the back here and drawn 5, he could get stuck up the middle a bit. Of course it may turn out that the middle is the place to be! He did benefit from the race falling apart LTO I thought – well a pace collapse, in what was a clear target given he’d won the year before, and he then ran on best part of track it seemed, opening up the rail for him. But he was impressive. If he won at 25s the sort you may kick yourself with. I may have some beer money on the machine at BFSP. He is 0/12,3p now in C2 20k+, and GF wouldn’t be ideal for him but has won on it. Some rain may take sting out though. I’m hoping their forecast of the odd blustery shower is correct as ground should be riding fast enough. But, no forlorn hope. I wouldn’t fall if my chair if he went close.

      1. Just watched the race again, he always had a clear but clearly won it well. I don’t think it was that competitive on paper and nothing has come out and won yet. With your thoughts I’m happy to leave him now, cheers Josh. I will fall off my chair if it wins, kicking myself twice on the way down.

        1. oh please never be put off with my thoughts! a £2 BFSP bet should at least ensure the kicks don’t leave many bruises! 🙂

          1. Yes, saver bet required now on him. Where horses are naturally pack animals sometimes they are just happy to be running with the pack and do not feel the need to push on and be the main horse. I think that it is called crowd comfort theory?

  10. Hi Josh
Not going to wade into this Jarrod debate, but unable to keep quite if you have contacted him three times to contact you by email and he says with all arrogance and showing no respect to yourself or your Data base that he his to busy, then pull the plug and sent him his membership money outstanding back to him.

When i had a couple of tipping lines via two companies who both charged me 50% of the income coming in for their Data base, they also did all the advertising and emailing,so all i had to do was send them my bets daily and the did the rest, suited me fine.

    Pull the plug now!!!

  11. I hv to agree with Colin. Anybody can post winners and say they bet it they are not real members in my book.
No one should use your site to fear there their own nest.

    Mike

  13. Jarrod,
Well, this is a delightful way to spend a Saturday afternoon… (you could have emailed me all of the above, not sure why you didn’t, again)

It concerns me that you cannot appreciate the context underpinning this whole discussion, and don’t appear to understand where i’m coming from. it’s all in the business context, primarily, and via your recent comments a concern over your motives, and the impact on my business.

You did mention the name of your site, with a link, in a manner which suggested you wanted free traffic, from this source. There was a paypal payment button on your site. What am I supposed to think when I see that? Hence why it was deleted. Can you understand that given this is my livelihood, I would be concerned if someone left here, to head to another service which they only found out about thanks to this blog, and thus my efforts over recent years. As previously discussed if someone is going to leave here (which clearly is fine and many do, only 30% of trialists like what I do here etc) via info from here, ideally I may at least get paid for it as some payback for loss of earnings. Or in any case get some payback given I’m the source of traffic.

Does that make sense to you?

Your original comment in relation to your site set the tone. And since then you’ve after-timed 2 big priced winners (which while irritating doesn’t bother me that much) but have specifically mentioned your ‘members’. You never did that before. Why have you done that? As from where I sit you are wanting to advertise your service. As said in my first comment to your first deleted comment that contained the link, there is a way to approach that in this business, and that wasn’t the correct approach. Hence why i invited you to email me and discuss, from a launching/business growth perspective. Why should you piggy back on my 4+ years of community growth and investment for your own benefit? Do you see how that looks to me in the context of everything above. I’ve said repeatedly I’m happy to have a chat from a business perspective as believe it or not i’m quite good on that side of things and building something of VALUE over time. 🙂

You went from posting fairly regularly, before said comment that I deleted and we discussed, and then after that it went quieter. And now some of your comments refer to horses that have just won and mentioning your ‘members’. I don’t know why you would mention them, what is the purpose, unless you want people from here to join/pay you. that’s the issue. There’s a cost for that access.

You either don’t get it which is fine and hence why i’m trying to explain above, or you know exactly what you’re doing.

    To your other points…

Geraint Williams… there was some chat about him in these comments and I got him to write an interesting free post. He tips for free on twitter/posts up lucky 15 etc. It isn’t a paid service and I know that most on here don’t just like lists of horses/knowing reasoning etc. He’s an enthusiastic, knowledgable racing fan who tweets his thoughts. Given some on here had done well in a short space of time I thought it made sense for my to see if I could get some quality free content from him 🙂 The maj of racing fans are not on twitter anyway, hence getting something on here of some interest.

Importantly I went to him, and any such comments from members did not come across in the spirit of wanting my members to join someone else’s service- that’s how some of yours have come across. Not in the right spirit. That’s the nub of the issue.

Geegeez…to clarify… I paid Matt 2k+ I think for a business training package back in the day. Nothing to do with geegeez gold. It’s such investment, risk, time etc, which makes me agitated when someone like you appears to want to piggy-back on th4 back of that, without approaching it properly.

Promotions…of course I gain something from everything I promote. This is a business and that’s never been hidden. I’ve never said that I don’t and quite often have been explicit that I do within any launch etc, and after every email/post/link about another person’s service i’m quite happy to divulge the terms and chat about it. There’s nothing to hide here. Most deals are around 50% commission in our business. My job is to make sure I trust the people, the product is actually good, and that the risk to new people joining is very low and if possible allows paper trading…either through money back guarantee offers or extended trials etc. What I do is very unique and not for everyone. But at the same time there are some superb services out there that may compliment what I do here, or that some may even prefer. Trying to find those gems has always been a part of what I do and I refuse to advertise many more services than the ones that get the green light. It would be quite apparent if I was money driven in that regard. My own painful experience dictates that I want to try and point people in the right direction, and if people enjoy x,y,z I will benefit financially also.

The moment I reach for my slippers is the moment it all goes to pot. I haven’t had a full day off in 3 years albeit i’m lucky that I have a hobby driven business and there’s no need for violins.

Having bought into the community spirit of posting horses etc for the sole purpose of readers benefiting here, something changed in your approach, and hence the questioning of motive.

I don’t think we need to discuss it any further and again, i’m happy to chat about all of the above over email. I don’t want to read another comment from you mentioning ‘members’ otherwise I will just remove you from the club and give you a pro-rata refund on whatever fees you paid when. With any luck having read the above you may now understand how I see it, from a business perspective.

Your final comment would suggest that all your care about is stealing traffic, free of charge. Again, maybe you’re just unaware of how that comes across and haven’t thought it through.

I’m off to make a cup of tea and google what value is, probably about time I understood it.

    Best,
    Josh

    1. Hi Josh, As you know I don’t usually concern myself with much other than 2yos but in this instant feel the need to comment. Aftertiming and bad faith, he’s had his chance. He has no need of your further indulgence.

    1. yep those days are never enjoyable! My own didn’t cover itself in glory. Thought Kenny was getting up but not to be, a game of fine margins. Meanwhile two losing tips LTO went in at decent prices. Always frustrating! On we go.
