2.10 New – Starlight Mystery– 1 point win – 7/1 (gen) UP…hmm, well plenty of MJs horses thrive on a quick turnaround,’m not sure this one has, nothing in tank when asked to pick up. Got an easy lead/dictated, almost pulled up come end. 

4.35 Notts- Tallinski– 1 point win – 8/1 (PP/BV) 15/2 (get) UP

5.10 Notts – Musharrif – 1 point win – 11/2 (WH/SB/UniB) 5/1 (gen) 2nd

Hmm, well within 20 minutes those prices have gone it seems, 13/2, 5/1, 5/1 generally available for the three, which will be declared prices when they all bolt up, unless they crash even more… 

Starlight Mystery...MJs stats here, from a small sample, when moving horses in distance and class, are impressive, and this one looked worth a go at the odds. He has a decent enough record when booking Kirby, esp in Good to Firm handicaps…which makes sense given his generally appear best on rattling fast, and he rides the Newmarket tracks well enough. The horse arrives in form, has her first try in a C5 and it’s the furthest she’s run over. There is also a chance he can dictate the pace here, or in any case be in the right spot on the front end. Hopefully all of those things combined may see her win this, and add another to the tally of his in form trainer. Of course she may not stay, but the pace they may go over this CD, winding up the gallop, maybe what she wants. We will find out soon enough! 

Tallinksi-…. in the context of this race his price is getting short enough as I type. Someone appears to have unloaded/or been tipped up somewhere by someone with a large enough following to make a difference.  He was worth a go at 8s/7s to my eye, and with any luck he will drift out again come the off. I’m in danger of being bloodied and bruised at the bottom of the cliff with this one, but in I go again. He arrives here in form, and bumped into a well treated class dropper the last day. He likes the track and did run there as if well worth another go over 6f. This could be what he wants now. Of course the big eye-catcher was the booking of SDS, who knows the horse and went close on him in a C4 off 77 at Newmarket. I’m pretty sure he could have ridden the Crisford horse if he wanted, but who knows. He should be in the right spot on the front end and can hopefully keep going. There is a niggle about C4, but the trip move/jockey was of more interest at the price. Or what was his price. He should give me a run for my money anyway. Meshardal looked interesting of those at bigger prices and I have thrown some change at him also. 

Musharrif... well his price was going as I deliberated but in the context of this race, I thought 5s still offered some value to my eye. I say that in the context that with jockey claims, there is an 11lb swing between himself and the fav, Dapper Man. In theory that should bring them together and it was a step forward LTO. Looking at his profile he’s never enjoyed going LH, 0/10,1p going that way round in handicaps,0/4,0p at Pontefract. He is 3/12,4p on flat tracks, which he appears to prefer. He’s a CD winner at Nottingham and the hope is that he will be fully tuned up on his 3rd start after a short break. His mark is plummeting – 3 turf starts ago in Nov 17 he was racing off 80, and now comes here off 69. I bet the trainer can’t believe his luck. He must have friends in the handicapping team! Ger O’Neill jumps back on also which caught the eye, and his 5lb will help even more. Trainer and jockey are 4/12,5p in 5f turf handicaps, 3/9,4p at the track. All in all, everything pointed to a decent run I thought, and I’d say he was probably the one I was most confident on…sorry Nick, I’ve put the mockers on him there for you!
