5 Furlong Sprint Handicaps – Test (0/2,2p, -2)
6.10 Wolvs – Krystallite – 5/1- 6/1
Two third places yesterday and given my approach with this test with any luck most of them will run well/be close to the money. Remember I’m using Geegeez + Inform Speed ratings as my ‘way in’ – focussing on those near the top of the speed ratings, and then seeing if I can make a case at the odds. This one has won after a similar break here before and I think there is every chance she can attempt to make all, if sharp enough and getting away. I think she may be the sort who sulks if not leading so we may know our fate early. The jockey has some decent stats to his name for a 7lb claimer and she is well handicapped with that taken off. Given her record after a break, she’s worth an interest (for test purposes! Don’t go backing these just yet unless you use these as a ‘way in’ and come to your own decision)
The other race of interest was the 4.00 Redcar…Carlton Frankie would be the one in the 4.00 but her price is long gone. She was 10/3 last night which looks decent now! I expect her to blast out, make all, and this mediocre bunch won’t have seen which way she’s gone. She should be doing that anyway, given her last two runs in decent C2s, this being a not so decent C4. The hood comes on, and provided this doesn’t come too soon, should be bang there/winning eased down/a shade cosily.

Both Tom Dascombe (Blyton) and David O’Meara (Murqaab) have very poor records with 2yos at Leicester. Tom 3% from 64 runners and David O’M 0 from only 6 so not a reliable sample. Robert Cowell who has two runners, Ballistic and Tomshalfbrother has a 22% strike rate and Kevin Ryan 19% but with the handicap of JPS up today so may well be looking for a gentle intro.
I saw Ballistic behind Jackstar, Van Beethoven and I Am A Dreamer (won yesterday) at Newmarket in April. My comments about Ballistic were as follows Ballistic – typical chunky Kodiac, looked a bit hairy 78
In the same race I rated I Am A Dreamer 75, so if I got it right and Ballistic wasn’t ready, pictures here https://imgur.com/a/JErLm
then the strongly made Ballistic may be quite decent.

Ratings Bets 1pt win Fanaar .5pt rev exacta Fanaar and Glorious Dane.
Fanaar carrying too much condition and my money on debut ran a solid race in 4th behind Konchek at Newmarket. I thought Fanaar was the best looker in the field and a potential Coventry candidate so cannot really oppose him here. Of the others Liberation Day has the handicap of the Dascombe Leicester 2yo stats, Alnasherat is from the Stoute stable, most likely here for an intro, Tzar Nicholas for Archie Watson is hard to work out, 7k as a yearling 90k as a 2yo. The Hannons have two Glorious Dane with Fran Berry up and Hollie Doyle riding Critical Data. They often start good ones here. I would suspect that Hollie Doyle is being give intro rides on Hannon babies to get her more experience. As Fran Berry is on Glorious Dane who is also 2nd top rated he looks the most likely danger to Fanaar. Fahey and Hanagan are represented by Sword Of Gold by Siyouni and will be worth a look despite not getting in the top five on ratings.
I shall be going to Leicester and hopefully will report back on the notable victory of Fanaar. The caveat is that each year I get obsessed with one animal early season, I’d say 3 out of 5 have gone on and won up to group level some have been complete flops.
I am away from Wednesday for 10 days but will hopefully find time to post from the beach!
