  1. I have a communications problem as I won’t be back in London in time to post up today’s races or yesterday’s review (not a lot to see) in any detail. So here are the Ripon ratings and a brief analysis. Kempton to follow later.
    1. Posh Perfect, Light My Fire
    2. Kodinar, Rock Party.
Haggas’s runner at Nmkt yesterday was hairy and a bit backward so the short price about Kodinar looks to be mostly about course starts.
Ratings Bets 1pt win both the top two.
Fun bet 1/6 pt combo trifecta Posh Perfect, Light My Fire, Rock Party.

  2. C 3.15 – Indian Stream e/w @ 20(4 pl’s) 16 (5 pl’s)
Ran well at Chel LTO and the drying ground should make more competitive.
I’m tempted with Midnight Jazz for the same reason and will have 1/2 e/w at similar odds

  3. 19/04/2018 7.10pm Newcastle ratings , report on Ripon 2.15

Good news from the first race posted earlier with Light My Fire taking the spoils at BFSP 4.87 so return 3.87 less 1pt on Posh Perfect =2.87pts.

    Newcastle 7.10 5f Ratings
    1. Murqaab, Sabre
    2. Smile A Mile, Jazz Hands
Ratings Bet. Smile A Mile’s draw, jockey and price put me off opposing him even though he is not top rated. So as we are having a good day 1/6th pt Combo Trifecta in case one of the top rated beats him.

I will post up a composite report covering today and yesterday later.

Newmarket Strings Of Life race review
Once they arrived in the pre parade the selection became a formality as Strings Of Life was a proper racehorse shape. Only lower medium size at present but deep barrel chest and well muscled if not really hard fit. For those interested in confirmation a comparison between her and the much bigger but slightly common Hard Forest or smaller but racy Ginger Nut may be helpful. Similarly a look at the difference in shoulder between SoL and Cotubanama or Chyna highlights the quality difference.

This is not to say this was a great race although Strings Of Life may well progress well as she has the structure, there were none of the others I would pick out as anything more than ordinary although no doubt several will win races as 2yos. Worthy noticng that the race was significantly slower than the colts on the previous day despite faster ground.
2 Strings Of Life – see above 81 might be much better but not sure that she beat very much here.
2 Kadiz – A surprise package in that Richard Hughes does not usually get them this ready and there may be a change to a more Hannon like approach. Ok size and shape but still wooly. Her 2nd holds down the form. 72
3 Cotubanama – Green and took a while to get going probably just trundled through horses who had gone too fast early. 67
4 Ginger Nut – Small ready type, not fully tuned. Should develop with racing but may need lower grade of race. 70
5 Chyna – Small and light bodied. Channon has them wizzed up this season but I doubt she will find an open novice. 64
6 Hard Forest – Typical bigger MJ type but somehow a bit physically wrong. Her withers seem to finish half way down her back and rear coupling not very pleasing. Hard to put one’s finger on the problem. Went too fast 72
7 Red Hut Red – Compact little girl, very sweaty and edgy. 66
8 Swiss Miss – Very woolly, completely unfit, lacking power behind. 64
9 Sung Choi Bao – Better than shown here, a good illustration of how important a good 2yo jockey is. Danny Brock missed the break, panicked and rushed her up which got her over-racing so inevitably she ended up fading. How badly she faded is a concern but worth a considering nto if she has a different/better jock. 69
