Festival Posts

Each day there will be a dedicated Festival Post,posted as soon as possible,notes as below…

The template will be as with last year…

Day X

1.Intro/re cap

  • brief thoughts/reflections on the day before or a look ahead.

2.TIPS: Summary

  • All recommended tips with staking advice and widely available prices at time of posting. Just the tips posted for quick reference.
  • All tips will be posted by 10am on the morning of racing but some may well be posted before, especially with 48h decs..although the weather is playing some havoc.

3.Micro Systems/Angles: Qualifiers + NOTES

  • Qualifiers against the 5 Micro Angles as per the report above
  • NOTES: time allowing any notes on trainers/jockeys/owners as per the report above
  • I will aim to get this info posted  the early evening (at the latest) before the next day’s racing.

4.TIPS: Race Previews (inc shorlists)

  • More detail underpinning the tips – stats/trends shortlists / write up/ possibly video previews etc

5.Any Other Thoughts

Festival posts will be posted as soon as possible. As with the daily members’ posts you can track their progress by what I write in the post heading… using ‘upd1’ ‘upd2’ etc etc so you can track progress. A post is ‘complete’ when you read ‘complete’ in the post title. All posts will be complete by 10am on the day of racing. In reality you can read a post twice and all content should be there, around 8mm the evening before and 10am on the morning of racing…at those two points a) by 8pm Section 3 should be posted b) by 10am on the day all tips will be posted

Daily Members Posts: These will continue as usual and will be the place for ALL NON FESTIVAL content, including in the comments.  I will also post up any relevant Free Post micro qualifiers in these posts as well, as there will be no free posts during Festival week. If you usually post comments under the Free posts, you can instead post under the Daily members’ posts.

Hope that all makes sense.

As with last year I will advise a betting bank for Festival Tips of 25 points.

That will roughly break down as 20 points for the handicaps and 5 points for any bonus race tips. For some handicaps there may just be 1 point bet, for others there may be 3 or 4.

Clearly you are free to ignore my staking advice and do as you please, but whatever you do I would set a bank and an amount you are willing to lose (all of it) if you wish to follow my tips.

I think that covers everything.

Let’s crack on,

Cheltenham Preview from Liverpool

I was unable to make this year’s preview but it’s always an interesting night. A couple of blog readers (thanks to Jim) were there and relayed to me horses of interest… I am only really interested in this preview as Andy Holding (Oddschecker tipster, WH radio possibly, has his own speed figures) is always there and he is one hell of a judge, especially on the non handicaps and what horses have performed well against ‘the clock’ – last year he picked out some decent ones, so we shall see how he does this year. In no particular order, of interest, and to note down (and remind me in comments!)

Andy Holding

-bullish about the speed figures of Next Destination and Black Op in the Ballymore (two EW pokes of interest against the red hot fav maybe – if the rain does arrive, not impossible Samcro switches to the Supreme, which would open this race up)

-Likes Rhinestone in the Bumper

-JLT – Invitation Only tops his speed figures

-Stayers- Sam Spinner tops his speed figures

Native River tops his speed figures in Gold Cup

Stormy Island is the best juvenile ‘by miles’ – Triumph (8/1…)

Mr Whittaker is the best handicapped horse in the country according Andy! (Close Brothers Novices)

Charlie Longsdon – said if Bentelimar doesn’t get into his race then ‘he’ll win the consolation race at Kempton!’

Other notes…

Callett Mad has a good profile for the Albert Bartlett (yet to check my stats to see if that is true…but the race can go to a hardy/battling sort, esp if it is testing… in my view, so, that theory would make sense)

Chap from Star Sports said Santini is their biggest liability.

Sort It Out – watch his ‘comical ride’ LTO in order to qualify for the Pertemps.

Something of use there I think. In any case, some useful info/thoughts to add into the mix.

  1. Narrowing The Field selected a few “below the radar” horses to keep an eye out for this season. Skipthecudddles was one, about whom its trainer Graeme McPherson said they were keeping the horse to hurdles this season and looking to progress to 3 mile races. The horse runs today at a few yards short of that distance in the 4.10 at Market Rasen in soft conditions which is its preferred going.

  2. Hi a quick glance ..I believe coo star sivola in 250 and Mt whittaker in 530 meet micro angle3..

    1. Cheers, micros 1-5 are saved in my HRB account so i’ll let them do the work for those, just about to start glancing at Day 1, as I type, 12.50.

  3. I have a guy I know who is a landscape gardener but works at Cheltenham on race days as a groundsman. Anyway he is at the course today for a briefing and he is going to report back later on ground conditions. He is a fair judge and I will post his thoughts tomorrow.

    I have been spending a few hours each day last week going through the cards and have done the following NRNB:

    Ultima – Singlefarmpayment 12/1 BOG each way 4 places and Eamon An Cnoic 33/1 each way 5 places;
    Grand Annual – Valdez 20/1 BOG each way 4 places;
    County Hurdle – Chesterfield 33/1 each way 4 places.

    Expecting non runners.

    I am waiting for certain prices on:

    Flawless Escape – Martin Pipe;
    Any Second Now – Close Brothers;
    Ballyward – Albert Bartlett;
    Gold Present – Grand Annual;
    Black Op – Ballymore;
    Al Boum Photo, Cap Soleil and Barney Dwan wherever they are going?

    I am also on Cause of Causes at 9/1 each way in the Cross Country from last year.

    Again expecting some non runners.

    I will be on course on Tuesday. I am off to the hospitality area with my brother. I have been invited by the guy who did the bet on Buveir D’Air at £50,000/20,000 back when Faugheen was favourite. I dont think he needs the money but it should be a good party if the fav goes in.

    Good luck.

  4. Just signed up. Does any stuff get sent out by email by Josh, or do we keep logging in for updates?

    1. Hi Andy, it’s all via the blog, I don’t email, sorry..

      You can track a blog’s progress with the title, I add to each post throughout day and just a case of when you can check… there will be no content posted after 10am on day of racing, once ‘Complete’ sign is up, and I try and get as much posted as quick as I can. Sometimes, as the week progresses, I like a good nights sleep before deciding final tips etc.
