2.Any ‘Notes’ (my subjective thoughts/’tips’)

None today…

I had a browse through last night and another good look through this morning… I was hoping to tip Le Boizelo at 10s+ but the money has come and he is half that now, so i’ve missed that boat. Hopefully any S1/S2/S3 backers may have had a go at bigger prices. He was certainly worth a play at 8s+ I think as he makes handicap chase debut here, drops markedly in class and it’s his second run after a break. The trainer is in red hot form and he showed clear ability over hurdles. He really ‘could be anything’ in this sphere at the right level. It’s hard to weigh up his last run but hopefully he can go well here. He was the one horse I was most excited about from section 1, at last nights prices. I’ve had a nibble on Buckle Street as I saw no reason not to at that price, S4. It’s a decent enough race, i’m not sure he’s good enough and the ground may not be ideal! Other than that he has a great chance 🙂 In all seriousness it wasn’t one I have gone mad on but I wouldn’t fall off my couch if he won. He is only 5 and arrives here in form. I’ve had a smaller nibble on Arthurs Secret who I thought may pick up the pieces if the top two in the market bombed out, but that could be asking for too much. He has no ratings pointers to support his case but is one of the better looking S2s of recent weeks. There are reasons to take on Venetia’s in the 1.15 Exeter although clearly he could bolt up again. The heavy ground and stiffer track/trip are new questions. He may relish both. Heres Herbie ran an eye catching race LTO and DL has nearly halved in price also.

Anyway, fingers crossed there is a winner or two up there today.

I have noted that ‘Skipthecuddles’ runs in the 2.35 Chelts – Jacob has been booked. He was a tip/notebook horse LTO. I’m not that bullish as to his chance, having now looked. We shall see. It’s a competitive looking race.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

May I take this opportunity to wish you and your families a very happy, healthy and profitable 2018. 🙂

I’ll ponder some racing related New Year’s ambitions for all things RTP in the days ahead. There are a few things I need to work on and that I’d like to achieve. (owning a G1 winner is a bit out of reach at the moment!!)

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your ongoing support, whether you stay, go, or just plan to read the free stuff moving forwards. It isn’t lost on me that I’m a fortunate bugger who gets to make a living from my main hobby/passion in life. And that is only possible thanks to you. My job is to make your experience of this blog the best it can be and I spend most waking hours thinking about that. The content and general approach is much better than it was this time last year, or even just 6 months ago. I’ll be working hard to make it even better still and as always any suggestions are welcome. I’d like to thank those of you who take the time to email in and in particular those of you who post comments. They make a real difference to the atmosphere and the profitable direction of travel.

Here’s to 2018. There will be fun and entertainment. There will be plenty of interesting content to read/watch. There will be long term profit.

Cheers.

Josh

  1. Happy new year to you and yours too Josh, keep up the good work , same to all the regular posters on here that make every day a school day when it comes to horse racing. Even though it’s already been done on yesterday’s/today’s post a special mention to Ian to get well soon , please pass it on if you speak to him.

    Chin chin all .

    Regards

    Westy

  2. A happy new year to you Josh and to all the other members of R2P. I have certainly learned a lot over the time I have been with you. Lets hope to start the new year off with a few winners.

    Good Luck.

  3. Happy New Year Josh and all Members , hope you have a great time & extremely profitable 2018 .
Maybe Dawson City (Ex2.25) can kick start the new year, opened 10/1 B365 …loves the mud and improves vastly from the seasons 1st run .Dropped to a mark 2lb below his 2nd in the sussex national ( 7lb claimer up) a fair e/w punt at the price and sure to be backed i think .

  4. Happy New Year Josh and to all my fellow RtP followers. Thanks for letting me post my 2yo thoughts up Josh and for everyone else for being so forbearing.
Here’s to a prosperous, happy and enjoyable 2018.
    Hugh

    1. Sounds like fun to me. I’d be O.K. for £ 10.00 per entry.
A Happy and Prosperous New Year to All.

      1. Hi gents… at the moment it’s just the admin/added workload that puts me off..sounds easy on paper but soon adds up.. sorting payment/checking/then picking horses/perm etc etc.
It is a good idea for a poll/a focus on a Saturday and maybe I can think about putting up some suggestions/ideas, for you to use as you please. But in terms of something more formal, I don’t have the capacity at the moment. Maybe one day
        Josh

  5. Morning all, keep up the good work this year Josh.
Definitely some gambles on the stats front this morning as Josh mentioned above.
Managed to get 12’s on Le Boizelo last night – surprised it showed up at 5/1 this morning – only value if it wins though in my mind…..
I’ve also backed The Cornish Warrior at Fakenham for Mulholland, who should by breeding enjoy the step up in trip, trainer 6/11 last 2 years in handicap hurdles, however there is a Murphy shorty in the race who’s trainer seems to have targeted the track since taking out a licence.
Also backed Arthurs Secret in a race where course form maybe key as Musselburgh is a tight right handed track. Horse finished a neck 2nd to El Bandit (rated 141) here in the Pertemps qualifier in Feb, ok getting nearly 2stone from the winner but worth a chance against the Bailey hotpot with a 7lb claimer on board.
Cheltenham looks a minefield today even with smallish fields, i’ve taken a speculative EW punt on Viconte Du Noyer, hoping he & trainer return to form. Stays further than this, and was the only horse to hit a few key trends for the race.
In the Relkeel I’ve backed Agrapart, who’s more than likely been laid out for the race and will thrive in conditions. Won this last year with Lami Serge and Lil Rockefeller in behind – given the ground doesn’t seem to be the quality of opposition as last year, though Colins Sister looks well treated receiving a 7lb allowance.
At Catterick, i’ve backed Nefyn Bay who pulled miles clear of the 3rd in this race last year going down by half a length to a progressive horse. From a 1lb lower for the inform McCain yard should go close again. Hobson has had Ramonex entered in a good few races the past 10-14 days only to pull the horse or the meeting to be abandoned so must be hopeful of a big run from the ex Curtis horse. I’ll probably rfc the two on that basis.
    Good luck all.

  6. Firstly glad to hear that Ian is back at home and hopefully recovering. The rain still falls and the ground gets wetter. Therefore we are drawn to horses that like it that way.

Colin’s Sister must be one, 3.10 CHN. I also like Arthrus Gift, 2.35 CHN, who seems to be progressing and at a price Shantou Flyer, 2.00 CHN.

Happy New Year again and good luck.

  7. Happy New Year all!

Despite there being five meetings today there is really a whole load of trash and I couldn’t find anything I liked enough to tip although have had £5 e/w on Mirsaale in the 13:05 at Musselburgh. This looks competitive but I thought 14/16-1 looked too big.

  8. What a nice way to open 2018 with….Snowed In sluiced in. I never got the 14s…i had a lay in…but the 11/1 i got was fine….Well done Ian’s lads….let’s hope this perks Ian up.

    Well done lads.

    Tony Mc.

    1. They are damn good, well as i’ve said the best i’ve seen by far to date. I’d like to think with them + what i do here + comments, we have a decent/varied portfolio 🙂 But then again I am biased.
