*you have to smile sometimes. Then bang your head on the table. Jockey booking insignificant, Easterby’s ‘non qualifier’ doing the business. Beating SP a small consolation but would be nice if one of those won sometime soon. He ran flat here. No excuse. Don’t know why he has ran like that. Maybe his effort LTO took plenty out of him.

This one looks interesting enough at the prices and of some note that David Allan rides. I can only think he would have had the choice here. The horse arrives in form having run two decent enough races and takes a drop in class from LTO, and moves from a premier track to a not so premier track. He stays well and T Easterby’s are going better than they have been. The T Easterby Micro age qualifiers here were very close to being in the Elite Squad also, but I was strict with applying the criteria. It is a solid set of stats. The final point of interest was Pace… I don’t think there is much on here- no proper out and out front runners that make all/try to, every run. The selection made all at Ripon when hacking up last season and I wonder if Allan will try and dictate from the front. He should do for me, but in any case will want to be prominent I think. His price seemed fair enough for one in form, drop in class, jockey switch, conditions to suit.

Of the rest – well Enjoy Life quals on the Top rated + Top 3 rated systematic approach which has shown some promises at least. The jockey has yet to win in his career I believe- his use suggests they think he is either too high in the weights, or is here to give the rider experience and not ready to perform to his best yet. But at 8s I probably shouldn’t over think it. On paper he would have an ok chance if ready to roll. Ryan’s have had equine herpes and they have recently got the all clear. A few other yards close to him were affected also. It could be this one wasnt at his best when last seen. A yard to watch in the coming weeks I suspect.

Nothing else jumped out at me personally albeit I have noted money coming for Christopher Wood which can be a good sign with that yard, esp newcomers I think.

  1. hi josh

that jockey/distance ROI is pretty amazing @ 146%, half of that would be superb.
I will not miss anymore of j spencer in a mile hcap @ ascot for sure.

    1. Hi Malcolm… yep, I can’t believe I didn’t back either of Spencer’s 2 winner, esp as that was after I had found the stat!! Moronic, but that is with hindsight. Looked at for the hunt cup, then forgotten about for rest of week. Those stats suggest his riding of that track is no fluke. Chance increased if plenty of front runners lining up no doubt.
The stats are impressive on paper- rarely replicated of course. But with any luck enough give there. Plenty of logic behind the approach I think but proof will be in the eating. The ‘A’ team have a solid set of stats and others and some exciting others.
      Josh
