*yep, just not very good/not ready yet etc etc. For a brief moment he looked to be getting into. Backed and then drifted again pre race. Done by one of the other quals which was typical. Russell and C5s at Hexham. Improved on his 0/19,1p over the minimum trip. Hmmm.
This one looks interesting at a price in what is a pretty mediocre race. He is simply in the ‘could be anything’ category, and yes you guessed it, that includes ‘could be rubbish’. This 4 year old had a handful of runs on the flat for previous connections without doing much. He comes here having his 4th run for his new yard and his first in a handicap. He seems to have got better with each run in maiden hurdles albeit the last race was very poor. But, some glimmers of promise. The trainer is 4/44,10 places with handicap hurdle debutants, +115 SP. He has the odd biggie fall in. There is no distance move or much else to raise an eyebrow really. But it could be they have just gone slowly with him and he may have done some more intense work since his last run. Or it could be they are still finding out about him and/or he just isn’t much of a racehorse at the moment. Irving takes the ride and trainer/jockey are now 3/5,5 places in handicaps. It seems to be a new relationship that has started well. The yard’s horses are going ok. At 14/1 I was happy to take a stab. With any luck he is backed. I suspect he bolts up with a tonne in hand, or struggles.
He was the only one from the list above that caught my eye really at the prices.
I had a good look at Theatre Rogue- soft ground may have been an issue LTO and in any case she pulled like mad. She is headstrong and they remove the hood here- that put me off a bit. They may well change tactics and let her get on with it. She was a lucky winner of the race before that and this trip a tad unknown. Gets decent ground and the yard is flying, and she is lightly raced. She looked interesting but a couple of things that niggles at me – her pulling, the PU LTO, not sure if will stay. 10s may be fair.
