Bet of The Day…

4.30 Bev – Tin Pan Alley – 1 point win – 10/1 (BV/PP/BetfairS) 9/1 (gen) UP

Going for a 9 year old is a bit fraught with danger but I thought he ran with promise the last day after a substantial lay off and the hope is that he builds on it, rather than bounces. He led for around 1 mile the last day, before being challenged, and fading in the last furlong. I am hoping that was down to fitness and odds of 20/1 suggested he needed the run/wasn’t expected to compete. He drops a couple of pounds and drops in class here. D Allan also takes over and he is the go to man for this trainer. They are 4/15,7p in handicaps at the track. And he does have a good touch with these older horses it seems. IF the horse repeated his two runs here from June 2015 when he won comfortably both times, he would out-run these odds. The final piece is the pace – they will try and make all again and from stall 6 should be able to get out and across. Lean On Pete likes to get on with it also, but is drawn a bit wider and is a bit more inconsistent. He has also been running in C6. Hopefully he can’t lay up with the selection and leaves him alone. But if he does try and challenge hopefully Allan is sensible. I don’t think he has to lead, but it would be ideal if he could. Maybe he needs another couple of runs to get going but I was happy to roll the dice.

He was the main one that stood out to me. (Lean On Pete will probably now make all knowing my luck!)

There are 4 #1 strategy quals I think, based on morning prices, which is still in test mode to a point on the flat. They include Tin Pan.

Crosse Fire… looks interesting. I didn’t like his draw and the fact that on paper there is a fair amount of pace. He is 0/12,1p on the flat but if you look more closely I think you could make excuses for a lot of those. Three were maidens, a few were on soft ground, a couple when the yard had issues latter half of last year. I am not comfortable just yet saying he won’t handle turf. But, he could get trapped wide, that is the fear. Alternatively they may hold him up and if they do too much at the front he may come through late. The yard is in superb for at the moment. And his turf mark is way below is AW mark. Not one to dismiss easily, albeit in the end I did for ‘tipping’ purposes. But, those are my thoughts on him.

Results: I need to get these all up to speed and write another review post etc. There is a fair amount to do that I will crack on with. I have my Royal Ascot research to finish, I want to have a brief look to see if any trainers we should follow in June, and a look at Epsom’s Derby meeting- again looking for any trainer angles. I want to get that lot complete today and then I will crack on with the results etc.

ValueRacingClub add another horse to their string
    30-May-2017
ValueRacingClub.co.uk, for whom I am Ambassador, have added the former Warren Greatrex trained mare Ilovemints to their string. A five year old by Kayf Tara, she was acquired for £26,000 at the Goffs UK Spring Sale at Doncaster last week and will join David Pipe. Yet to race over hurdles, she won one of her four starts in bumpers and was placed on her most recent outing at Taunton at the end of last month. Effective on quick and slow ground, it was hoped she would develop into a Listed bumper mare by her previous connections. While those expectations failed to materialise, she remains a mare of considerable potential and one would expect the head of Pond House to get the best out of her. Ilovemints is the second horse the club have in training with David. If anyone would like to get involved, please head to the website Valueracingclub.co.uk and get in touch with syndicate manager James Couldwell.

‘I was working at Cartmel yesterday for Racing UK and spoke to local trainer Jimmy Moffatt. He passed on a positive mention for Danny O’Ruairc who lines up in the two mile one handicap hurdle at 4.40 tomorrow. The five year old has been absent for 546 days and runs off a mark of 87. However, Jimmy said he is working well at home and is expecting a big performance. A maiden under both codes, he ran in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes at York as a two year old. I have had a small each-way wager on the Fast Company gelding at 25/1. The stable have already sent out two winners at Cartmel this season, including Morning Royalty in the staying handicap hurde yesterday.’
