Horses of interest…

2.30 Hexham… OAK VINTAGE – 16/1 (general) UP 10/1

Oh well that poke didn’t come off, and to make matters worse the winner was a TTP pick, that I was on the fence on. Double damn. Moving on…

I may have a fun dabble on this one, in a shocker of a handicap chase. The ‘way in’ is the fact the trainer is 4/8 with horses she moves in distance by 20%+ from last run (thanks Geegeez Gold). So, that caught my attention. The horse is doing something different from recent runs, up 1/2 a mile. Given he looks to have been out-paced over 16f that could be of interest. The horse is only 7, having his 5th chase start. He could just be useless but the hope is that he shows more over this distance, over fences. The yard is also hitting some form. Clearly they don’t have a massive string of horses but from the start of October through to 25th of Feb they were 0/28. In the last 30 days they are 2/7,4 places. Hamilton is 5/21,11p here with all runners and 2/9,3p with her handicap chasers, in the last 5 years. The horse won a novice hurdle over 20f and deep ground seems to be fine.

We shall see. I thought there was enough there for a passing interest at that price. He could just be slow/not very good, but there is something to go on. The market will guide no doubt.

That will be all for today.

  1. Southwell 3-10, fav looks a bit dodgy and i’m going to go for Zabeel Star, if he can produce anywhere near his flat form this weak race should be there for the taking i got 14-1 last night generally available @9-1 this morning so maybe a bit of money going down.

    1. Southwell 3-40 Boher Lad @4-1 u/r yesterday and they have put him straight back out today, Won time before in a hurdle race when 11-4fav over this course and distance (good to soft) last month, beating Classico Dais by 5l. think i’ll have a small interest.

          1. Good job, yep I thew the same at him, was rather good fun to watch in between my Flat TTP research!

      1. Great shout Martin….was one of 4 that went in for me today….Cheers.
Had a good week so far.

    2. I tend to agree with you about the favourite but the one I want to take him on with is Hardrock Davis. George does really well here with more than 1 in 3 of his winning in the past 5 years. This improves to 8/15, 11p in non-handicap hurdles in the past 3 years and 3/5, 4p with Heskin on board. Last time he ran in good ground he was only 10 lengths behind a horse which ran a solid race in the Neptune. I think he might have needed it LTO. They put the hood on here which is not something George does very often but the 4 times he has done it since the start of 2016 his runners in a first time hood have gone 21F3 so he seems to be a good judge on when to use it. Given the fav takes up so much of the market he looked a good e/w bet.

      1. I agree with you Nick…the Fap…has a double top rating….and apart from Zabeel Star with 3 class placings…the rest is open country. I don’t put maximum faith in Flat trainers so I was happy to go with HD myself.

  2. Hi,

not much to put forward at present!

As an each way poke, Pearl Noir, 8/1, 4.20 Wol. In good heart I hear and has a suitable draw.

Win bet, Modulus, 3.30 Hex, was 4/1.

    No news otherwise.

  3. Very interesting stats and the selection been generally well backed into around 7/1 : when looking through last nights race, went with what thought the most progressive and that drawed myself to Bandol 3-7 over fences, admittingly 8lb higher in the BHA ratings compared to when beating Duhallowcountry 6L heavy ground, latest was in the process going well when falling under John Kington LTO – if feeling no ill effects should be there or thereabouts come the business end of proceedings.
