Another no bet day for me personally. The last day was the day to back Sue Smith’s charge, running like a 4/11 shot then, but when available at 5/2- sadly I didn’t back him there. Anyway, those two are too short for me and I will leave them.

4.Any general messages/updates etc

I have updated the Festival Resources post with some notes/angles for 1st Time Headgear and Previous Festival Winners. They make for rather interesting/exciting reading and with any luck the headgear angles may lead us to a 25/1+ winner this year. Fingers crossed…you can dive straight into those notes HERE>>>

UPDATE: The resources post now has a link to a Micro System Master/Quick Reference Guide: CLICK HERE>>>

(there are around 20 in total I will use as ‘starting points’ It may be too many and throw up 15-25 possible selections per day, but I would rather have too many whereby you can sift through/ignore as you please, than only have a handful of possibles per day. All of the angles are decent enough, some better than others maybe. But they will hopefully add to the experience. I haven’t attacked the Festival with so many micros before and there is only one way to find out if it is a worthwhile approach! Last year it was just the trainer angles, which worked well)

Free Online Festival Preview Magazine…

I haven’t posted this one on here, but I am 20 sign ups away from the Injured Jockeys Fund getting a nice round £100 from you good readers, so it is a final push.

The guys at Free Racing Tips sent out their magazine yesterday and it is a very good read, getting you in the mood for the Festival. It is packed full of content/race previews/ante post ideas. All you have to do is sign up HERE>>>> if you haven’t already done so. They will send you the magazine and if you wish you can then easily unsubscribe from their list, it doesn’t bother me. (blue button at bottom of each email) But it would help me out and more importantly the IJF 🙂 Thanks.

  1. The RSA chase is often a good guide for finding the Gold Cup Winner, last years winner Blaklion has gone off the radar somewhat, probably due to some lacklustre performances, though last one wasnt too bad.Brings to mind Lord Windermere the winner in 2013 after winning RSA in 2012,think was available at 33/1 in places winning at 20/1 sp,even though NTD is in such bad form recently i will be having a cheeky e/w on an outlier at 50/1

    1. Don’t hold me to this Gerry, but I think he is a definite non runner from what I have picked up on the preview circuit. Think GN may be the race. Not sure. Do agree thought that it feels like there ‘could be ‘ a strange result.

Ben Pauling, at this preview last night, suggested NTD may have a bug, and his and Fergal’s yard are right next to each other, well the latter rents his off the former.

      1. In a year with lots of pull outs what about Lord Windermere in the Gold Cup? Jim Culloty has produced it to win at the Festival previously. Unsure as to whether it is still a runner?

        1. Does feel odd and for an interest throwing something at a couple of biggies may be no bad thing. I was in the ‘I will just watch’ camp, which is what I will do. I won’t be tipping in it I don’t think- I like Native River but some have raised questions over his liking for this track etc- I don’t know, I think he might bolt up with his relentless galloping and superb jumping – and an agressive ride from Dickie around this New Course would be perfect. Great track for prominent racers.

Returning horses have a shocking record- so Djackadam a concern. We would all want Cue Card to win I hope, but I wont bet on him. I can happily cheer him on. But there is a stamina niggle, been here before and he is 11 now. Elliot has said that he would have liked to send Empire of Dirt here and that if he had, he would have been the pick of his, which says something about the others.

I believe Sizing John is awful on the dosage figures, and there is a real stamina doubt.

So, that then leaves some biggies – Champagne West and any of Jonjo’s maybe? For some change/a tickle just to have a betting interest, if needed.

I will ponder nearer the time.

          1. Two years ago, I thought Djackadam was a sound bet for the GC only to lose.
Willie M has said that he had problems preparing him for the last two years, but has had a clear run this season so has to be on my short list.
There’s been plenty of money for More of That; this Stayers winner, with two novice wins over the course, merits serious evaluation, especially after its last fence fall at Leopardstown lto when challenging, and is unexposed.
