Glengra (hncp h) 14
West Torr (micro going IF Heavy, currently ‘soft’)
Skewiff (NHF) (no rating, speed or HRB)
NOTES: Glengra- not on the ratings pointers but at 12s, he does look interesting. I would like to see some market support but the trainer is in form, he can ready them, and this one is just unexposed, only having his second handicap run. He also steps up in trip. Trainer/jockey 2/5 in handicap hurdles. I wouldn’t be shocked were he to run a big race and the market may guide as to whether he is fully tuned up here. Certainly one of the more interesting non-ratings pointers you will see I think. Soft/deep ground would be a concern/unknown also, and would maybe be a reason for a no show. But, having only raced on good, you are guessing as to whether he will handle it or not really. if he drifts then maybe not today, if he doesn’t, then we could have some fun.
Skewiff- E Williams 10/50,12p with horses having first ever career start, in the last 2 years, +32 SP and a micro angle that will probably pay over time and find the odd nice priced winner. I don’t usually like looking at the opposition with this approach but it is hard not to note that he is up against a 1/2 on shot. They do lose and this ground is very different from Taunton so you never know. At around 11/2, with 3 places- my head would say an EW play,if you play, may be an ok option.
Yellow Admiral (NHF) (no ratings)
Hear No Evil (NHF) (no ratings)
Skywards Reward (NHF)
NOTES: Yellow Admiral- trainer can ready them first time up so that may not be a worry. Having had a look at his NHF stats, they suggest the market is some guide. Those going off over 20/1 SP are now 0/34,1p in NHF races, so an eye on the market may be needed. But, you never know. up against a few in here that have run well already also.
Hear No Evil is 11/10, too short for me personally, esp for one unraced in a NHF race, but that’s just me. He is clearly expected to go very well and may win hard held for all we know. Skywards Reward… Hammond had been cold for a time but signs of some more life recently and he had a winner on Boxing Day, his last two runners have come 2nd. He is 2/77,16p with NHF runners in the 14/1-40/1 bracket-so the odd one does drop in, just hard to find! His first run was in a listed bumper at Newbury, which may indicate they thought something of him. There is also a chance he needed the run the last day. Any drift form his current price of 33/1 would be a concern – 0/25,1p NHF runners 50/1+. I would be far from confident of getting a run for my money here, but at the same time you wouldn’t be shocked if he placed, and given he is 33/1, and on the ratings pointers (albeit 4 don’t have a rating, inc Skeltons/Greatrex which are fancied) I will personally have an EW play. You don’t need many in that price range to drop in- and the stats do find biggies every now and then. (4x 20/1+ winners so far I think, 20/1, 25/1, 33/1,50/1)
BONUS STATs (Ireland/Novice Hncp Chase)
1.20 L – Baby King- 30 H3 (HRB Top 3 rated. I do count ‘bonus’ selections in the ratings pointers results)
Note: there are no speed ratings for any of the NHF qualifiers. As yet Baby King doesn’t have one either, that may change later on,will update if so..a 0 on my geegeez cards at moment.
1.20 L – Baby King (Bonus, as avove)
3.40 W – Skywards Reward
That is all for today. Good luck with whatever you go with.
