Below follows a ‘video review’ of Aintree’s meeting on Sunday. I was track side and thought I would touch on a few horses of interest- mainly what I spotted pre race- who would come on for the run, which horses really stood out, who looked keen/on toes etc. Hopefully you find it of some interest. I haven’t done something like this before but hopefully it adds something!
Notes on the horses discussed follow the video, as do a few notes on horses I forgot to mention, such is ‘live tv’ 🙂
Notebook at the ready….
NOTESÂ
Horses discussed….
Robin Roe– well touted pre race, clearly talented- hacked up. May not be much of a price on next few starts but not sure if you would want to be taking him on.
Smoking Dixie– needed the run I think, longer term project ?…
No Comment– looked nice pre race, doesn’t jump that well yet…
Ghost River– lovely big stamp of a horse, big feet! (will like the mud??), maybe has become disappointing but one to keep an eye on, esp when tackling fences. Big frame and could still have some growing to do. Sluicing through the Ffos Las/Chepstow mud maybe…
Scoop The Pot – looked like may come on for run. Fell early so may need next run also…
Kerrow – talked about as a chaser in the making – will be better for a fence
Ueueteotl- just to note that he is an out and out front runner- always useful information to have onside.
Desert Sensation– line through this run. On toes beforehand, pulled all the way round, unsurprisingly faded late. Drop in trip maybe? If settles better he could clearly have more handicaps in him. Syndicate were here and out in force, 14+ of them…maybe more expected.
Forgotten Gold– needed the run here albeit still faded tamely – not sure if had a problem late on. Travelled and jumped well for a long way, faded turning in. Still has races in him.
Born Survivor – lovely big horse he is clearly one to track. Cruised into this and didn’t find when asked. Can’t think he needed it but maybe didn’t let himself down on this ground. One to keep an eye on. If/when grows further into big frame he could be special. Should be winning races this year.
God’s Own– ran a decent race, arguably unlucky – met trouble at key point, lost ground just as winner was gaining ground.
Royal Regatta – looked a picture before the race but ultimately not good enough. Big jumping error a few from home may have ended his chance. Useful to note that he is a front runner, may be better with cut. Can’t say this mark is beyond him and wouldn’t be surprised if he makes all at some point this season. Small fields clearly suit given those preferred tactics. Probably prefers it softer. Jumped well bar one fence.
Pawn Star – ran as if the handicapper now has him
Minellacelebration – jumped well, galloped well. If well placed could be following up. Gap back to the rest. Prominent racer worth noting where turns up next few starts at a low level.
What A Moment – doesn’t look like one to trust in a finish. Came into race cruising but wouldn’t put it in when asked for effort. Looked a reluctant racehorse, not wanting to put head in front. Maybe they need to try and make all and give him no option of passing a horse in front..
Ilovemints– may have ruined chance before race started, looked buzzy pre race. Clearly not her true running, well backed into 7/4
Big Robin– definitely one for the notebook- big stamp of a horse and must have plenty of growing to do. Looked like would come on for the run and maybe taking slowly slowly approach with him. Was the clear standout in the paddock and is a ‘could be anything’ type in years ahead.

Horses not discussed in video that I forgot to mention…
Bearly Legal– irish raider looked very straight here and looked well. Ran a decent third. Questions as to whether he stays this trip still. One to watch if dropped back in distance maybe. Ran well enough.
Buywise – gave a creeping ride in this race and ran well enough. Could come on for it. No idea what they are planning with him- of some interest if they have decided to target a big hurdle race of sorts, fixed brush hurdle maybe? Must have lost punters a packet over fences! But has some class.
Perform – definitely needed the run here. Should come on a bundle here. Plugged on…next time out?…
Zanstra – in novice handicap chase- looked really nice before the race, if a little keen. May have used up plenty of energy in race albeit didn’t jump well at all out the back. One to watch as looked good on the eye and clearly knows how to win.
Dr Robbin – had been off 397 days and looked like he would need a few runs to get up to speed, bit heavy underneath. Used to have ability so one to keep an eye on for the Bowen’s.

very good blog and informative author who knows his stats!
ha cheers Tony…well, the stats didn’t cut much ice for much of the year on the flat etc, but thankfully I appear to have researched some decent ones for this jumps season, so far so good!!
