TIPS

3.10 Haydock

Hollow Blue Sky – 1 point EW – 20/1 (WH,4 places) 16/1 general UP

No Duffer – 1 point EW – 10/1 (BV/Lad/Coral/WH/BetB) WON 11/2

That will be all for this race. Short write up will be sent out by Daily Punt. (typically, and I suppose predictably, there is now a non runner, making it 3 places)

4.20 Haydock

Achimota – 1 point win – 5/1 (PP) 4/1 (general) Fell (when struggling)

I will keep this one fairly short. I have been waiting for him to try a trip like this all season, having entered the tracker after his Bangor run. Every chase run this year has looked like he is well worth a go at this trip – crying out for it even. He is well handicapped again, won’t mind what the ground does and looks likely to keep going. I had to have a go to see if that opinion is correct -we shall see. The yard is a bit cold which would be a concern but, given the field size and price, I am just about happy to look over that – there have been quite a few 25/1+ shots running that probably haven’t been expected to go well etc. He looks like he is still in form and usually tries – two statements which it is hard to make about many others in here. Universal Soldier could be the interesting one for the Bowen’s and may be worth a saver. WON

STATS/ANGLES OF INTEREST

2.20 Carlisle – Basford BenWON – this old friend is worth mentioning, despite the fact that I am developing what could be termed ‘Mission Complete Syndrome’. (he will win eventually!) I cant bring myself to tip him here but I did say the only time I would back him again was when he returned Carlisle, over this sort of trip – which is what he does today. He could get an easy enough lead again and maybe this hill will spark him into life – the ground is the big concern as all his winning form is in soft. It is due to rain and I don’t know if that will be enough. I probably can’t resist 1/2 a point (£10 for me) at 5/1, just in case! Bar the going every other box is ticked and I can’t say for sure he can’t win at this track on this ground.

That is all for today.

  1. Haydock looks a mare to fathom especially with heavy rain due, I shall stick to Course specialist Basford Ben at Carlisle and have a small punt on Dutch Uncle at Kempton, I can only see one winner at Haydock and that’s the bookies satchels….

    1. Ah, we do like a good puzzle in these parts though Ian 🙂 – Agree, does look a challenging card and this race in particular – It is officially ‘good’ and they are only meant to get 6mm at worse, we shall see if that is the case- hopefully no worse than Good to Soft come race time.

      1. Good to see your comments about Basford Ben and the tips on the 3.10 are bang on imho….I also have a hunch a few Northern yards could do well at Haydock so have had a few bob on Attention Seeker in the 1.25; The Cobbler Swayne in the 2.00 and Apertrix in the 3.45 and also included Sir Vinski in the 2.35 in a small unit accumulator….Good Luck all..

  2. I cant get away from Final Assault in the 3.10 and 12/1 seems big for a horse who has been very consistent and held own up against top class horses this season

I imagine Leo Luna will try and take them along, giving Final Assault, the hold-up horse, a good pace to aim at. Yard in better form now too

What do you guys make of his chances?

    1. Hmm yea I had a good look at him but he is just a bit too inconsistent for me. That race he sluiced up in was fairly weak and I don’t know if connections know what his best trip is. Still can’t work out if he truly stays in a race that will be well run and he has just fluffed his lines a few too many times for me. Has placed form on good, but do feel he may be best on softer. He is 12s though and trainer in much better form now, could make difference. As ever,if you like one, never let me put you off! I am only right 2-3 times every 10 bets!

      1. yep, fair points. ideally would’ve wanted the weather to soften the ground up, making it more an energy-sapper for the others. Looks like there are a few in the field who can quicken better than him on the firmer ground, which is a worry

  3. These Saturday handicaps are hard work which is why I leave it to Josh to work out. Do fancy Our Kylie today in the 14.55 Carlisle

      1. Get the feeling you know what your doing Josh. Hope you had an interest in Our Kylie at Carlisle today which won cosily today and Megan Carberry gave her a great ride.
        Regards

  4. Hi Josh
Non racing chatter. Just got back from Liverpool after visiting eldest grandson @ Uni,and have to admit I think that
    Superlambanana’s are great. 😉
    All the best young man

    1. Hi Bill,
Ah well your grandson has chosen a mighty fine city in which to study, hope he is enjoying it. Ha,yep they are indeed!

    1. About bloody time eh?! I didn’t think he had that resolution in him, probably a rain shower away from winning that a bit more comfortably. Nice to see him get his head in front again.

    1. Indeed, didn’t have him down as a ‘battler’ but clearly something about that track that sparks him into life. Nice to cheer him home.

    1. Cheers, yep did that well. Knew he would be handy which is place to be on that track on that ground. Stays 25f at Sandown so was confident he would just keep grinding. Brennan (Cue Card aside) a joy to watch when he throws horses at a fence. Lovely jumper.

  5. Hi Josh
Had Bashford Bob, No Duffer/Hollow Blue Sky, & Achimoto/ Universal Soldier 4 x £1 ew Trebles
Have £40 going on to final leg win only. Fingers crossed, bigger donation it wins for you Josh.

      1. Josh

£261 for £8 (4 x £1ew trebles). When you said have a saver and I found out he is 45% at Haydock from 11 rides I thought I had to have a bit of it (13/2) backed as a single as well.

        Many thanks Josh.
Pity I don’t live in Liverpool or I would have stood you a couple of beers. I live in Fife. Perth is my racecourse I like to visit. I will be picking your brains for the 3 day festival on 20th April.

        1. Ah nice return that from an £8 bet! Yep, I maybe should have considered Universal Soldier more at those odds, but was always going to back A over that trip given my view (incorrect it would seem) – Yea I had a ‘saver’ on, a good day all told. Ah yes I enjoy Perth’s festival and there will be some interest there, esp in the chases.

  6. I dont see “No duffer” when i read, you only posted 1 tip in each race 🙁

    I need a newsletter Josh 🙁

    1. Ah,was emailed out as well this morning. Did leave holding note last night saying would be one more, as always blog updated by 11am at latest and if there is no ‘COMPLETE’ in blog title, you know there is more to come. Sorry.

      1. Mailed in the “members club”?

I donated, but i am out of this club, no problem. Congratulations.

        1. Nope, mailed to my normal email list. When you see that pop up box come up on this site every now and then, if you enter address in there you join my list. I email out most Saturdays and during week every so often with various things.

  7. Universal Soldier he is better with low weight won
    interesting day it was
England-Germany Vardy shaw Germany poor defence and poor attack

    1. Yep had ansaver on,got the selection wrong but never mind, decent enough day. Bowens clearly got him back and appreciated the better ground, albeit softened slightly. Quite lightly raced for a 11yo.

  8. Superb again josh nice return again today I’m running out of things to say to complement you since following your tips and of course donation I’m already showing a healthy profit cancelled my rubbish paid tipster look forward to upcoming flat season and antree coming up

    1. Cheers Rob, yep I would have taken that before the day started so I won’t complain. A few winners littered over the post and around +9 points for the ‘official’ tips which I would take every Saturday! Yep am looking forward to the flat – cant wait to get stuck into the 20+ runner heritage handicaps over 5-7f. Aintree – well that meeting is a bit of a graveyard for me historically but there will be something up here for that. I go all three days and do like to socialise, which impacts on form study!!

  9. Great pick with no duffer josh. It coincided with another couple of people I follow so was my only bet of the day frustratingly left bashford ben alone even though it was my tracker horse for the day too. Il take what I got though

    MIKE
