Well with one shortlist horse to go as I write this all of the ‘tips’ have been pretty poor. All 3 in the 3.45 ran poorly and the only ‘highlight’ was backing a 13/2 shot at 16/1. But, that is the nature of those big straight course handicaps. The winner did it well with a new change of headgear, his low weight and an enterprising ride (previously held up on all runs) doing the job. He was the only really unexposed horse in the race so him winning was not a shock – although out of the 8/1 shots available this morning I preferred Buckstay – in saying that maybe I was a bit too quick to dismiss his last two runs given the depth of those races.
Thankfully the micro systems made sure it was a decent day with winners at 13/2, 12/1 and 7/4. That is the benefit of a portfolio approach. Hopefully Kirby can limit the damage on the tipping side later on.
