The Way In..

Ralph Beckett has pretty solid stats at this track with his handicappers. 11/32, 16 places since 2009 and 3/4 in the last 365 days. The trainer is in form in the last couple weeks as well (5/25)

The Horse…

Well it is a 3yo handicap and while I don’t wish to play in these too often those trainer stats are strong. Whatsmore the horse is only one of three horses to have won in the class in the race (and most of others have had a few goes) and is a winner on Good to Firm. She is unexposed, ran ok last time out, and gets good to firm over 6f on turf for first time this season. These are her conditions on what we know about her to date.

She wore cheekpieces for the first time last time out and seemed to respond to them. Now the blinkers are reached for and they could do the trick. There is always a chance the horse responds negatively but with all the above I think 6s is a decent price to find out.

The Opposition…

Well of course these horses are still growing and maturing so there is every chance a few will improve on what they have done to date at some stage. But, as 3yo races go a lot of these appear ‘exposed’ in the sense that most have tried the class and distance before a few times and have yet to win. Lolita looks like the main danger from those with form. The rest have so far struggled to win in quite some time and at least Gold Waltz does know how to win.
