Leg Iron 9/1

Given the extreme going it is hard to be overly confident about a number of runners in this race. This will be the 8th running of the race and I think it is interesting that no horse has carried more than 11-4 to victory. Clearly horses with large weights have struggled in this race so far. It will be interesting if that trend continues in the future. A lot of these ‘look like’ they will stay but in this race I want a tough and proven stayer who may still have improvement to come – step up Leg Iron. I was impressed with his battling attitude to win last time, which was his first try at this distance. There is a doubt about the ground, but that is the case for a few of these, and I think there is enough in the price at 9/1 to take a chance.

Smoking Aces, if in the mood, will go close. But, that appears to be a big if, however if one person can coax him around it is AP. Reblis has tried this trip a few times and appears not to truly stay, although he likes the ground which is a big plus. There are a few too many PU in his form though for me to take 11/2. You could make a case for many of the others, and if it wasnt for the weight i would be interested in Ballybough Gorta, but I think Leg Iron is a solid option who will hopefully give us a run for our money.

good luck
