PACE WINS THE RACE (test)…

3.00 Chester – Reflektor – 1 point win – 9/1 (general)

5.05 Chester- Twin Point – 1 point win – 10/1 (bet365/BV) 9/1 (gen) UP*

*Well he wasn’t quick enough/good enough there.

Reflektor- he likes to get on with it and is perfectly drawn to do so here. On paper only him and Blithe Spirit  (possible danger) have consistently led in their races. The latter named could run a big race also but the selection is better drawn and is less exposed. Dascombe is 2/4 in 5f races at Chester with horses returning afer 60+ days off and you would think this one has been primed for this race. He is also in decent form (as is Alston), 6/27,7 places (inc wins) in the last 14 days. This one will be up there, provided he breaks on terms. They will try and lead. The horse is 2/8,5p on the turf and there could be more to come this year. He ran well on seasonal debut last year, at Pontefract. He is probably a decent EW bet but in general I only play win only, and will go the brave/foolish route here. As I will on…

Twin Point- another low drawn horse who likes to make all. A couple of others like to get on with it but they are drawn much wider and may struggle to get out and across. I suspect this one will try and lead and should give me a run for my small interest. Fellowes is 8/34,22p with horses after 60+ days off, +24 SP- which is a decent little micro angle by itself. The horse is 1/4,3p after such a break. Fellowes is 0/4,2p with runners at the track and given his liking for front running, I wonder if he has been saved for this. With any luck he wont be far away.

Others of interest… (pace wise)

Pace is King at Chester, usually, especially if you can get an uncontested lead. Others to watch out for…

3.35 – Blakeney Point- there are not many front runners in this bar him and the lead could well be his if he wants it. Trainer is in form and he is open to progress. They may hold on to him to get the trip, but in any case should be in the right place. And of course he may not be good enough. I will watch with interest.

4.05 – Al Zaman- he made all when he won his maiden LTO and it will be interesting to see if they do so again. Pace can matter less in these races that are more about class/ability and something else in here may just have much faster legs! But, he should lead I think.

  • Well Josh,
I selected the same 2 as you, which is probably the kiss of death!
I also think Watersmeet could give you a run for your money.

  • Yup gone for a little e/w poke on Blakeney Point in the cup, seems to be improving with the step up in trip and as you said boxed for a nice run,do have a little concern about kieran sheomaks inexperience at this track if he has to clock the pace himself,(still just 5 starts with 3 places not the worst),hopfully he might just drop behind the pace which i think may come from stalls 6 (watersmeet with norton on board) or stall 9 (good tradition with mulrennan up top),still should get a run for my tenner e/w poke.
