My thoughts for today…
A great days racing and there are a few horses i fancy today at good prices.
2.05 Ravens Tower 11/1 1pt win
Not the kind of race i would dive into outside of festivals but i just thought this horses was too big in price. He may prefer a sounder surface but has winning form on soft, amd is a tough horse. A few of these are closely matched on their cheltenham form but i will take a chance with him at a good price.
2.20 Haydock. Big Johnny D 7/1 2pt win
On his form at the back end of last year it is clear to me that this horse has more to come and could be smart. He is a front runner and is drawn to attack. The jockey booking catches the eye. The slight worry would be whether he is fully tuned up,but if he is they may not catch him.
2.40 Sandown Gullinbursti 7/1 1pt
This is a bit left field as on ratings he has something to find. Unlike a few of these i think he is guaranteed to give his running. Looking at his profile he is a right handed horses and it surprises me how little he has ran that way round. 4/7 RH 0/11 LH. The slight drop back in trip will suit and surprises can happen in these small field races, and he deserves his chance.
2.50 Ripon Hopes and Dreams 1pt EW 12/1
This bold front runner demolished some sprint fields when making the running at the back end of last year. What drew me into this race was the draw and the pace. There are only a small number of trailblazers in this race that i could see,and they were predominantly drawn high. She can get fractious is the stalls, but if she doesnt,if she breaks pushes pace, and if she is tuned up,she will go very close! There are a few ifs but i couldnt ignore clear draw and pace advantage that i think she has.
Burton Port 1pt EW 10/1 5 places
Godsmejudge 1pt EW 10/1 5places
i backed Burton Port in the GN and i wont abandon him now. i think he has been aimed at that race ever since he came into Jonjos care,at least for the last year. It is no coincidence that his handicap mark has dropped so far. He unseated his rider early in that race, and with MCoy booked he could well get some compensation. He has class,he is well handicapped and i am confident he will stay given he was trained for National.
While Godsmejudge does not have his preferred ground i am hoping that his stamina gets him through. He needs to race up with the pace, and we will know our fate early if he is out the back. Due to illness in King yard over winter he is quite fresh still. Providing that he is over his Ayr run, simply an unknown,i would like to think he will go close, amd shouldnt be out of top 5!
It will be a great afternoons racing and hopefully there are a couple of winners amongst this lot!
Good Luck (we will need it!)
